if you work in design then retinas are a massive pain in the ass in regards to compatibility and working across multiple machines, it will be great when all computers are retina but at the moment of my 20 machines at work only one is and it also has the most issues with the graphics card trying to render imagery

Pre retina hi-res option MBP fo lyf.

Ah well, if only I worked in design I'd find it annoying I'm sure.
Instagramz look super good with retina tho.

it doesn't matter if you use the native resolution. Native = more workspace.

We have an old iMac that the kids use which is slowly dying.
I have been googling, and understand that I can replace the hard drive. Has anyone done this, and if so, where would you take it to do so in SW London (we are Wandsworth based).

HAVE YOU WON THE LOTTERY OR SOMETHING M9!?!?
I am very tempted by one of those to be honest... let me know how it goes with Sketch etc.

Going to need a new MBP very soon. Shall I wait for the new ones?

Pre retina hi-res option MBP
This.
For me especially because they're the last non fucking glossy screens.
Very expensive used though if you want one without the logic board illness. So wish the new MBP will come with a matte screen option..

Been an Apple Music user from the start and loved it, but finally have had to accept that it's too buggy and I'm sick of paying for something that doesn't work. Subscription cancelled.
Used Spotify when it first came out, but hated the client and the lack of methods for chosing/finding music. I must have spent more hours staring at the search field trying to think of something to listen to as I did listening. I loved the Apple 'For You' and radio sections. Is there a similar alternative that will work better than Apple (media format not supported, various unexpected errors, 12984 errors etc).

Didn't like spotify at first either, I can't remember names so the search is useless for me. Discover Weekly playlists works wonders though, and when I can't think of anything I just visit Resident Advisor, Pitchfork and a few other review places and checks what had good reviews lately
Give spotify another go, it's come a long way

I use Google Play Music. I like being able to upload my own music and merge that with online stuff in the same library.

+1 for "Discover" on spotify. They have a bloody great algorithm that gets it right 99% of the time.

feel pretty vindicated for not waiting to buy my MBP now. would have been about a 8 month wait at least.

Well, the cable's fine, but in removing the drive and trying repeated repairs on it, the file structure came back to life.
That appears to have been the problem, Google reports, and multiple attempts at running whatever recovery process Disk Utility does can sometimes rebuild it enough to allow backup. So I'm backing it up for him, except a few files which have corrupted, then will format and reinstall, and recommend he buys a backup drive.

anyone else watching the keynote?
So I now can breathe with my apple watch that I don't have. Great.

Yep, need a new MBP, come on Apple, stop with the marginal software improvements...

New file system sounds nice but only beta in this release.
'Bout fukin time
Siri on the Mac is a nice thing to have but not really a huge deal. It works best on the phone because it's always near by and always listening.

Adding Siri to Macs has to be seen in the context of Alexa. No need for a standalone device.
Siri order me a new MacBook
Siri turn down the heating
Siri turn on the lights
Etc.
Etc.Money in that for Apple from purchases and 'works with' products.
1366 x 768 is too low for a laptop in 2016.
The MBP looks like it's about to get a slightly wtf update soon, with only usb-c ports and some touch screen where the F-row is.
Plus the usual irreparability and non-user upgradeable RAM etc...
