Shot blasting

  • I recently dropped a frame off for shot blasting, I want to have a look at the frame quality under a dodgy powdercoat and find out if any chrome survived before restoration.

They told me that the steel frame will begin to rust within a couple of days after blasting, is that true? Does anyone know what I can do to stop that?

  • Yep, a frame will rust VERY quickly if taken back to the bare metal.

A thin coat of oil will protect it.

  • Or a coat of paint.

  • As it'll be getting a new paintjob, I wouldn't worry about it.

The thin layer of rust will cause it no harm and be easily removed when it's prepped for paint.

    Cheers, reassuring thanks.

Does anyone know of a site where I can try various paint scheme options online?

  • BikeCAD perhaps?

I did see something on one paintshop's site, but I think it was quite basic and I can't remember who it was...
