• Hi guys,
I would like some help. I like to go touring in New Zealand at the beginning of next year and I don't want to ride on this crappy frame anymore: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/267453/?offset=25#comment12614351 .
At first I was thinking about buying a nice 29'' touring bike like a Velo Orange Piolet because I want to be able to have fat tyres but I don't like to spend so much money.
Now I'm thinking about buying a second hand Koga Randonneur frame, this one:
Will it be a stupid idea to put 650b wheels in it so it will be more suitable for unpaved roads? And what kind of brakes and rims can I use for this? Any info is much appreciated!
    Paging @edscoble

  • I have a Koga Randonneur - look a few posts up.

With 700CC mine easily clears 32s + big mudguards, you could probably run 40s without mudguards. As such I've never needed a 650b.

Only problem is they're quite rare.

  • Thanks for your reply and nice bike!
Yeah I was thinking about just running 700C with some 40s, should be more than enough for gravelroads and such. But it would be cool if I would be able to ride some mtb trails as well and than I prefer wider tyres.
