Yes, I was a few drinks in so not sure about it, in the sense my tastebuds/brian was not too sure if t made that much of a difference. A chap was holding court and going on that even with all the nice gins flavours available they are all wasted with poor quality tonic.

Have any of you made your own gin?

A friend of mine is having to deal with the aftermath of the death of an elderly relative, and in the back of her drinks cabinet has uncovered a bottle of Booths "House of Lords" gin.
He got in touch with me as I work there, to see if I could verify if it actually came from the palace of westminster, but unfortunately it looks as if, in this case, House of Lords was used as a trademark and there is nothing on the label to actually say it was sold in the Palace of Westminster. It was, however, produced at the Red Lion Distillery, which stood just over the river and was finally demolished to make way for the Royal Festival Hall, so it's not completely impossible that this brand was not served in one of the bars in the palace of westminster...
The really exciting thing though, is the date. If the label on the back is to be believed, this gin was bottled in 1943. Anyone have any idea of what it might be worth?
My friend is wondering whether to sell it or drink it, and I'm wondering whether I ought to make him a reasonable offer.

That label looks like it was printed on my ZX Spectrum. Sorry can't help you with its worth but it's a good reason to frequent a gin bar and ask their opinion.

For christmas I got given a voucher to do a gin tasting and mixing workshop at the Ginstitute.
Anyone done this? Is it as awesome as it sounds?

They supply our bar and the owner and bar manager went on it, sounded like an excellent day out. It's on my to-do list.

Is it still sealed? It has no value whatsoever if it's been opened. A younger bottle of Booth's, albeit in better condition, is for sale at £250, so there may be some value in it.

Not bad but not awesome. Have been there.

Not usually a gin drinker but i bought my sister a bottle of Opihr* and had a little drink.
Mixed with cloudy apple juice and slices of clementines, its like a cold mulled cider.
*its quite a spice-y (peppery and herby, not chilli-y) -

I tried a sample of Opihr and loved it, it's also the only gin I've managed to convince Simon to drink.

Just got back from Belgium, where I bought a bottle of this.

It was a pretty heavy long weekend, so I won't be opening it quite yet, but it looks interesting. -
