  • Wood off?

  • Wad off

  • Would've?

  • American couple riding the wrong way (i.e north) down the southbound cycle lane outside Blackfriars station this morning. I ask what they're doing, the lady (imagine Clara from Back to the Future Part III) shouts "sorry!" and they meander on their way. Two seconds later I hear a panicked scream and turn round to see them in a heap on the road, having realised the error of their ways riding into 3 lanes of rush hour traffic coming the other way, which had all now screeched to a halt. Could've been much worse, so thankfully is amusing rather than horrific.

  • top arsehole.

  • got shouted at in regents park for riding 2 a breast by a well dressed suit wanker in a nissan kumquat +2. North west corner, clockwise, on the slight incline after the mosque/temple/thing. I referred kumquat driver to HC R66.

Highway Code Rule 66 - you should never ride more than two abreast, and ride in single file on narrow or busy roads and when riding round bends.

On re-reading this I see I have consistently mis-remembered it (as "don't ride two abreast unless it is safe to do so"). First it is advice not mandatory. Second, narrow and busy roads are often when I'd be in the middle of the lane anyway, i.e. being two abreast wouldn't make me any harder to overtake. In any case:

    1) Cars parked on both sides, and I considered Mr Kumquat did not have sufficient room to overtake
    2) I was cycling at almost exactly 20 mph, ergo overtaking impossible without speeding
    2) Mr Kumquat very nearly drove into someone turning onto Avenue Road, because he was shouting at me and not looking where he was going

My friend noted that we were not the cause of his anger, and he must be having a bad day/week/life.

    8/10 will regents-park-mmute again

  • I'm trying to imagine the snappy retort you used that conveyed the correct HC article in a pithy and succinct way :-)

  • I saw the slow TT guy! Cruising down Brockley Rise at 5mph, wearing natty HED shorts, in a full aero position.

  • Hmm, going back and reading the other accounts of slow TT guy, it sounds like this was a different person.

  • We need pics of slow TT guy(s) plus The Banshee. Commuter Top Trumps.

  • Commuter Top Trumps.

Could definitely think of a few of these.

  • I was informed that I need to ride closer to the kerb by a shouty very fast Mini driving in-a-hurry and thus obviously very important and ace-skilled fellow road user today.

They maybe didn't notice the fact I was indicating right at the time after shoulder checking and about to turn into a side road. They had to overtake me on the wrong side of the road....

Thats the last time I turn right I can tell you, I know my place.

  • cycling along balls pond rd/st pauls rd yesterday morning, when a scooter runs a red from my left. It has two guys on it with tinted visors. They speed off ahead of me then quickly u turn, mount the kerb on the other side and ride up behind a lady walking. Seems like they tried to swipe her bag or phone but missed for what ever reason. So brazen!

  • Extra hour of sleep last night made all the difference. Good commute this morning :)

  • Sad story this morning.

Following a guy on road bike this morning up Clarence Avenue towards Clapham when I spot a squirrel bounding across the road.

Mr. Squirrel sees the approaching bike and stops in the middle of the road (almost on a crossing, actually)... but then has a mad impulse to keep going and throws himself under the roadie's back wheel.

Clearly severely injured, but not dead, Mr. Squirrel flails about for a good few seconds until it becomes clear that there's only one option. Roadie had to put the poor thing out of its misery.

Poor bloke was clearly shaken by the whole thing. Unfortunately it was definitely the right thing to do.

    RIP Mr Squirrel.
Roadie - hope you weren't too shaken and got to your destination safely.

    :( /10
