  • I am going to scratch all my skin away. Argh!

  • Oh great, and nosebleeds too.

  • Man...
My face hasn't stopped leaking since 7am.

  • I think im on sneeze 37 of the day.

  • Stop drinking/eating dairy products. Reduce sugar intake as much as possible. Stop drinking alcohol. Take probiotics. Find an antihistamine that works for you (this takes a lot of trial and error).

I've found doing all this has really helped reduce symptoms this year. It's still there, I still sneeze here and there but haven't had the asthma stuff and painful eyes...yet.

  • I was struggling yesterday, an evening run in the countryside was only time I wasn't sneezing lots. Much better today, v.mild symptoms so far. Still no pills or spray.

Strange correlation around symptoms easing after running.

Any evidence corpus for any of these measures?

  • Brilliant. Managed nearly 36 years on this planet without so much as a bloodshot eye from pollen, then this year it decides is the year. My throat feels like i should be shoving a tube down it before closes up completely. I feel constantly like i'm on the verge of a brain-ejecting sneeze and worst of all, my wife feels loads worse so i can't even get any sympathy.

Been in this house for 3 years and lived in Bristol for over 10, so what's changed this year?

  • I'll have to dig up references later but dairy causes your body to produce more mucus so should be avoided during allergy season or if you have a cold. Alcohol raises histamine levels and will make allergies worse. If you want antihistamines to be their most effective, don't go out on the piss.

Some studies have shown that probiotics can help some sufferers. Your gut flora have an effect on your immune system so having the right stuff in there can actually help.
Sugary foods aren't great for your stomach (or anything else, really) and cause an increase in certain types of gut bacteria that love sugar. This is a bit more tenuous but it goes with just looking after your digestive system.

  • The mucus \ milk effect seems to have no basis in evidence, according to this nlm article:

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3279269/

  • The lack of an academic URL and peer reviewed paper, based on RCT and statistical analysis rather leads me to distrust that one.

    Shit fixie-skidders say thread >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • That's really interesting thanks.

  • Snot. I'd forgotten what pockets full of wet tissues felt like.

  • surely with all this rain pollen is subdued ? isn't it

  • I wish

  • Today I haven't taken my tablet, and I'm fine. First for ages.

  • The river path has a 3 mile stretch uncut grass & weedd, had very itchy blotchy legs after running though that this morning, otherwise still drug free & coping. Tend to just get a 4am sniffle that wakes me, seeing it as a bonus early alarm clock.

  • Dying today.
    Can't. Stop. This sneezing.

  • as above. eyes hurt to fuck.

  • Yes, today has been fucking dire.
