I have one of those shitty cable locks. I use it for all-day riding. The kind where you're going to be with your bike the whole time but need to pop into cafes, toilets, etc... and just want to know that no opportunist can immediately grab the bike and ride.
It's good for a few minutes defence against someone with zero tools. Basically opportunist passer-bys.
It's useless for everything else.
I like the thought of an alarmed on, that would make it fractionally more useful. I doubt the alarm is required though.
