I used one of those mini retractable ones, if I feel the need.
They're shit, but stops someone literally wheeling it away.

Clip helmet through wheel or set brakes on with barrel adjuster and QR lever.
Neither stop someone throwing the whole lot in the back of a car unless you lock to something. My little Halfords cable lock usually goes through something if I think I'll be in the servo/store more than long enough to watch bike through the window.

I don't like the idea of not taking a lock, but locking is a ballache.
