  • People on the FB group post stuff to rider's accounts if they go wrong. Might have had a route failure and used a smartphone to get back on track. Any number of things. Got to a town that wasn't on her list of towns she was expecting and thought 'fuckadoodledoo' and threw a u-ey. Maybe she just really wanted to see something out there...

  • I was asking a devil's advocate question.
    Chill Winston.

  • Who is Winston?

  • Hippy's easily excited Australian alter-ego.

  • Lee Fancourt reported vomiting black tar on his last FB video, bad reflux/heartburn and strugging with the heat. Seems that his partner is very concerned and has spoken to the local County Sheriff who's going out looking for him at first light. Nearly 30 hours since his last SPOT update or any contact.

    Shiiit.

  • I answered.
There's no room in the fridge for Winston.

  • Or maybe just a road sign indicating a direction that didn't make sense for her

  • "This is Graham here from slam69, please dont panic, it seems the dynamo we fitted to Lee's bike to charge everything may not be generating enough power when hes going slow. I have messaged the organisers for an update. Pretty sure he'll pop up shortly. Keep the faith people."

  • Dynamo doesn't power your SPOT. And now it's 30 hours, he should have reached some town by then. But yeah, hopefully it's just something dumb like he forgot to turn it back on.

  • Yeah it's real weird. So many possibilites.
But you'd have thought one of the passing cyclists past the tracker last dot would have seen him. Maybe not.

I read the facebook post, that he was saying his phone was possibly dead due to dynamo. But your right about spot.

  • His SPOT shows him in a campground just off the road.

  • I figured that would be visable from the road though. Maybe not, looking on streetview.

  • Yes it can - SPOT Trace can be powered by 5v USB. Maybe he wasn't carrying spare batteries and had to resort to dyno power.

  • They didn't do much to help!? No new bike for her.
Was her tracker not on the bike?

    Scum.

  • Maybe, maybe.

He's pretty experienced, so hopefully he's on the way to somewhere with comms. We'll see I guess.

  • Was her tracker not on the bike?

That's what I wondered. I've not read details of the theft - maybe she took it off with her frame bags for a sleep.

  • Stopped outside cafe for 10min, went back out and it's gone.

So crap. I've travelled in some bad places and left my bike unlocked.

  • From fb

Praveena Thakor: I've contacted the sheriffs office they have been up there scanned around and see no signs of Lee. They will try again at first light. I've given his exact gps co ordinates and they want some more information which I'm gathering now and passing onto them. They will have a look again at first light

  • I don't like the idea of not taking a lock, but locking is a ballache.

  • I used one of those mini retractable ones, if I feel the need.
They're shit, but stops someone literally wheeling it away.

  • Those alarmed cable locks?

Clip helmet through wheel or set brakes on with barrel adjuster and QR lever.

Neither stop someone throwing the whole lot in the back of a car unless you lock to something. My little Halfords cable lock usually goes through something if I think I'll be in the servo/store more than long enough to watch bike through the window.

  • I usually take a tiny retractable cable lock that weighs nothing, and wouldn't stop anyone with a sharp pair of scissors.

  • We talked about these on the forum somewhere. I've been debating whether or not to bother with one: http://www.racking2go.co.uk/mini-lock-alarm.html
