  • Give it a try, stems can be had so cheap so easy to try before you buy. I had my fit done with a 90mm stem, was happy for a few years, but as my flexibility improved I started to feel cramped. Switched to 100mm and it's been great. Been a few years on that now and will probably try adding another 10mm soon.

  • I have a friend who's getting a nice Ritchey stem wholesale, it's a one shot deal though - need to decide. I guess from your story 100mm would be right, for now.

  • I'm sure you can find similarly priced alternatives that are already in the uk.

  • No 17º though. Long and low(pro) innit.

  • I have this badboy for the stoker on my tandem http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/cinelli-pista-31-8-stem-cinelli/

  • Planet X are £20 and -17 deg

  • Can't be putting a PX stem on a Look, even if just for one ride.

  • In that case, I recommend dropping a load of cash on a flashy stem and then crossing your fingers/praying to the bike fit gods that you still feel comfy and your knees don't bash the bars when you put some effort in on the climbs.

Nope, stems aren't nearly expensive enough. What's needed here is a 1cm longer frame.

  • Thigh-bone reduction.

  • I feel similiar with my bikes.
    What´s your post-ride stretch routine?

  • I am not a physio (IANAP) but basically I'm on a mission to be able to touch my toes within a year. Not sure how this is going to go, but feel like I'm making progress.

So first thing is try and touch my toes, then stretch my calves out and my thighs. Also got some clever/weird sitting down technique going on for the glutes. Each one is 10 to 15 seconds.

Try and do it after everyride, but sometimes I'll just try and touch my toes while i'm waiting for the kettle to boil...

I'm also trying to strengthen my core, so evenings see me try and remember to get off the sofa and do a handful of sit-ups, plank things and press-ups. I used to windsurf a fair bit, so this kept the core in shape. Now I don't get out so much so need to strengthen or I'm knackered after about 10 minutes on the water, but sure it will also help on the bike.

Thats about it. Definitely feel more comfortable getting longer and lower on the bike. Hopefully this will continue.

  • I've been doing these for about six months

Hold each one for three reps of 30+ seconds.

I was happy to find a simple routine from a trusted source after trawling through mounds of random conflicting advice from various websites.

  • Anybody else here found their bike handles really differently when seat height changes? Built up new bike and seat was a smidge (2-3mm) too high which meant pressure on my hands, but it cornered fantastically. Now I've lowered it to the extent where my hands are better and pedalling very smoothly, its starting to under steer a bit. Can't win it seems

  • Take out a spacer under the stem? Or - 17 stem? Or something. Just guessing!

  • Get lower over your front wheel when cornering, it's weight distribution that's making the difference.

  • Let some air out before cornering (moar grip and lower front end) and then pump the tyre back up for the straights.

  • I recently went on holiday where they had some nice (for me) Trek Emondas that you could ride.

I rode a 58, but would have thought I'd need a 60 (I'm 6'3") and it fitted me really nicely. Then one day they'd run out of 58s and I rode a 56, but I noticed no difference. Am I a ghost? Rides were 70-80k and pretty hilly (over 1,200m climbing).

The seat posts were on a QR so I just put it roughly where it felt right.

  • Trek H2 geometry. Basically MAMIL-y/T-Rexy.

  • Pretty low already. Will experiment with 650 front wheel strapped to back for rapid ultra lowering of front end.

  • Special geometry that feels the same across 2 sizes. T'was comfy.

  • considering both stems were slammed and same length here is stack and reach between the two, 56 left and 58 right. Substantial diff between stack, 3mm between reach.

  • That's interesting. I recall they had a mamiltastic 30mm of spacers on each, plus conical. Stems looked to be either 100 or 110mm but I'm sure they were the same on both.
