  • ^ surprised the race director let him race.

  • No drug testing in adventure racing. Take ALL THE DRUGS!

  • Skimming the tag on Instagram... https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/tabr2016/

Laura Scott was hit by a car yesterday, doesn't seem badly hurt, had a new front wheel built and is back in the race.

There's a video of JP and the other Salsa guy looking grumpy. I forgot there was a pairs category this year...

  • Damn, looks like a big impact. Guess the bike/car took most of it. She's 'lucky' I guess.

I like the nickname Cheatervary. I will think of it from now on.

I wanna know where all that shit on the floor of Sarah's photo is on the bike...

  • Sarah Hammond is fucking killing it. She's averaging 287 miles per day, and is quite a way ahead of Lael who's now sleeping in 2nd place.

    Amazing.

  • Also, Brian Steele is back in it, after getting a neck injury after some dicks in a car threw a bottle of water at him and hit him in the neck. He went to hospital, but he's riding again now!

  • she's barley slept though.

It'll be interested to see it unfold in 2nd half.

    Race flow. http://trackleaders.com/transam16

  • Interesting indeed. Is the 24hr tt the longest event for Sarah Hammond before this? Can she keep the pace? Lael probably can, with her expirience of long rides.

  • My money's on Lael, she's just ridden SO much, and knows how to keep moving. She never sits down for a meal, never sleeps in motels.

I suspect Sarah will blow up pretty soon. So little sleep. But then, some people can cope without, who knows?

  • I think, based on very little experience, that you need a few of these races in you, before you can really boss one. Experience is king in ultra racing, on so many levels.

SH clearly has grit, and grit is needed in spades. So I think it'll be a serious fight. And I wouldn't want to call it.

I love bike racing. Ultra racing is the best.

  • I'm not calling it, SH could win it, both the ladies could blow up and someone else takes it, who knows. The wind in kansas could destroy their minds, the rednecks could eat them in the Ozarks, fuck knows!

  • I love bike racing. Ultra racing is the best.

This. I don't like supported racing, this is the real deal.

  • who knows.

    That's what makes it great.

I cannot wait to get out on the open road and race.

  • Yep.

Quite eventful already with just a couple days in. Crash, thrown bottle, one had the bike stolen, Markku from Finland had he's tyre (tubeless, I think) torn or something and had to buy a new one from some bike shop in Eugene.

  • Yeah some sad events. Shame really.

  • Yes, those are. But it's part of the adventure. And most of the route is probably more quiet, less cars and people?

  • How little sleep has she had?

1 REM cycle per night for two weeks is borderline possible but that's usually reserved for RAAM racers who have a support crew yelling at them all day and night.

  • I'd fucking love it if a Melbourne boy and Melbourne girl could win this two years on the trot!

  • ^ I know you dont facebook but they've got a supporters page, loads of people getting behind her https://www.facebook.com/HamosTransAm/?fref=nf

Even kids getting maths lessons with trackleaders?!

  • Yeah, posted that the other day.

  • Oh yeah!

  • Yesterday I read she's slept for 1,5 and 2 hours. Alright for a long brevet but for over two weeks...

  • Jure Robic used to get a REM cycle a night (60-90min) for two weeks of RAAM. He went properly loopy during the race though and without support keeping you on track you're probably more likely to crash out during TransAm trying it.
