Look to stay in nørrebro or vesterbro or as close to the lakes as possible.
Don't know anything about bike rentals.

i take it these areas are tourist friendly? .i.e. close to transport connections, relatively busy, not just residential areas? thx for the input...

What do you want to see? Classic touristy stuff like the Little Mermaid, some royal extravaganzas and a museum or two? Or something else?
