I haz 2.4 Nobby Nick snakeskin and 2.35 Rocket Ron snakeskin

Nic always strikes me as too aggressive for an XC tyre. Supper laggy. But I'm going to try it anyway. Feels like they need something between Ron and Nic.

2.4s mooar draggy but whole different ballgame of grip/descending.

Conti similar gap - Xking = Ron, Trailking = Nobby Nic.

Need Rocket Nic or Nobby Ron. Maybe get the cutter out

Couple of tyre questions...

What's the Conti equivalent of an Ardent/Ikon pairing? X king/Trail king?

Any suggestions for something 27.5x1.9-2.0 or maybe a small 2.1 for general purpose CX-type riding?

Yes - Gorrick hold some races there.

I swapped my Ardent/Ikon pairing to to a X-King/Mountain King and appear to have similar levels of grip/rolling resistance. The Trail King looked a bit heavy for general XC use.

Ah I meant raceking, not trail king. Mountain king/X king it is then I think :)

Needed a change from the 456, so I'm in the process of building up a DB Prince Albert in 853.

Uplift is nice and all, but it was the constant pummeling from hard, rocky tracks that broke me.

I don't mean to Scobel you with obvious advice, but it sounds like your suspension and or tyres aint set up right or are inadequate if BPW is killing you.

Hardtail with ~120mm at the front. I could get down the trails fine from a technical point of view, but there are no smooth sections and the constant vibration takes its toll. My mate on his Orange Five fared no better.

Your tyres must be too narrow.

You'll have to let me know next time you're over this way and let me try your fat bike.
