Do you know where the waste pipe goes to? Is it far away? There may just not be enough fall on the pipes.

How big is the job? A contract may not be necessary but I would get everything in writing before starting. The scope of the job, expected times/dates, any retention amount and payment terms.

The waste pipe runs to a suspiciously narrow looking cast iron (I think) pipe which is only about 1.5m away from the back of the bog.

Bathroom refit. I have scope and rough time frame agreed in writing. Prob need to discuss payment terms/times/hows... cheers all! Pretty excited about finally getting a new bathroom. Have demo over spent, (thanks for that sink link @amey) but I'm going to have to live with the bathroom for a year or two at least (may move then...). A decent bathroom increases value right? My current ones main feature is mould.

Decking is so easy. Come by for a cuppa. Will chat.

'the rest'...
some 2x4 joists for the frame - length and how many depends on the size of deck. (got mine from GNK in Norwood)
loads of deck screws - I used 400.
Deck boards - i used wickes as they had a 2 for 1 deal on nice wide ones. Again, length and how many depends on size of deck + a couple for the sides.Level it out roughly, lay out supports, position joists - adjust so they're level, screw joists to supports, lay and space deck boards, cut to fit awkward shapes, drill hundreds of guideholes for screws and screw together, add edging, apply sealant / stain. Jobs a good 'un.
Loads of 'how to' guides online.

Don't forget to get pressure treated lumber though. ...and a bucket of sparks for the angle grinder, a long weight and a bubble for the spirit level.

How easy is it to remove the toilet?
-

Tartan paint?
-
• #7466
Shouldn't be too bad. Remove mastic. Walk off the push fit.
On closer inspection the main waste stack is only 1m from toilet, normal gauge and metal.
-
• #7467
Is it bolted to the floor or just silicone?
Hope it hasn't been no more nails'd in to place.
-
• #7468
Bolted.
Just managed to get a better look at the waste stack. I think the problem is that the 1m run from the back of the toilet to the stack starts off with modern plastic wide pipe and then connects to what I assume is a narrower 1930s cast iron junction with the main waste stack itself.
Basically there's a bottleneck.

• #7469
This is the junction with the stack that I'm talking about.
What a ball ache.

I bet there's a nappy in it, there's always a nappy involved.
-

I assume that old toilet cisterns had more welly and could push solid waste more effectively than modern eco cisterns.

If it is a closed couple, it is good practice to change the sealing ring

Doesn't make that much difference, unless you are a small flush. The issue is the fill up and then the drain, something isn't right.
-
• #7474
That wonderful moment when you other half comes back with wilko paint, cos it was cheap.
Never fucking mind it needs eleventy brazillion coats to make a difference. FUCK MY CHEAP PAINT LIFE.

One thinks that shit maybe the issue ;)
No, plenty of water making it into the pan. It appears that there is some sort of periodically appearing restriction or blockage downstream.
