Yuo may just not be used to riding on the hoods. Give it some time or maybe readjust your postion. Can't imagine doing long rides on flat bars personally.

I time locking up pedals before the crank is horizontal to the ground then I lean back with all my weight on the trailing pedal while pulling up with my hand on the opposite side and counter steer
