How big is the job? A contract may not be necessary but I would get everything in writing before starting. The scope of the job, expected times/dates, any retention amount and payment terms.

Bathroom refit. I have scope and rough time frame agreed in writing. Prob need to discuss payment terms/times/hows... cheers all! Pretty excited about finally getting a new bathroom. Have demo over spent, (thanks for that sink link @amey) but I'm going to have to live with the bathroom for a year or two at least (may move then...). A decent bathroom increases value right? My current ones main feature is mould.
