Have you tried going the other way and freezing the blocks?
The bitumen should become fragile and the difference in shrinkage between the wood and bitumen might break or at least stress the bond.

Ikea.
But really; how big? what style? hand knotted? fair trade? -

So I've got a load of 15mm Baltic birch ply - 5, 8 x 4 full sheets and loads of other bits.
I'm going to use some for shelves and some to hide the boiler but other than that not sure.
@bashthebox any ideas?

I'll take a bin bag full of random body parts if there's still one going...

Those are just some steaks hanging to mature their flavour....

I'll be making a small bread garage out of 15mm BB for our mini kitchen reno.
I'll also be making a table top to sit on top of the super cheap Milltorp underframe out of 25mm BB. -

Contracts. Do I/should I get something drawn up and signed before work starts or is that overkill?

@Tenderloin Are they Matt Lacquered?
Make an Alvar Aalto style dining table and chairs - get that steamer out.

buy a couple of trestles, pop one sheet on top, varnish it, and you have a massive, cheap, instagram friendly table. also this is quite simple

What sort of furniture are you after? I'm still hugely on my box construction ideas - I really like the modular way of building things up.
My next big big project is gonna be a wardrobe, taking inspiration from this sort of thing:
Want to learn a bit about more CNC machining and jointing techniques so that I can get the pieces cut for me, and essentially make a glorified flat pack. -

how hard do we think it would be for a notive DIY-er to lay a new patio of sandstone of about 9m squared?
ive ripped up the old patio and the base appears to be generally level but sloping away from the house (which is what I want)
I think with sandstone it needs to be laid on a wet mix instead of a sand/cement dry mix and you cant dot and dab it. so I guess its just a case of taking a guide line and making sure its all level.
someone at work also said I should put a membrane down underneath?
what can go wrong?

what can go wrong?
That's the spirit!

The membrane stops weeds. It's not essential. You can control weeds the old fashioned way with a patio weed brush and scraper.

cheers!
and novice fishing question... what about the rest? (broad "i dont know what im talking about" question)

It's not that usual for small works, i.e. the amount you are doing. If you're above £50k then probably but it's usually not worth the paper it's written on if push comes to shove. I've heard of multimillionaires who insist on contracts which the builders always fall foul of and end up with penalties deducted from their money.

Nothing much, it's one of the easiest jobs technically, quite physical though.

I have a toilet problem. Newly fitted bathroom in second floor purpose built 1930s flat. Waste pipes boxed away with no access without a ball-ache thanks to previous owner.
Toilet flushes fine for a few uses but after a while the water level backs up when flushed and drains slowly, usually after a Donald Trump. A large bucket of water poured quickly into the pan seems to clear the blockage but only for a few uses until the problem happens again.
I like having a toilet with a flush powerful enough to dispose of a dead otter. What am I most likely to be looking at? Inadequately angled waste pipe? Blockage where waste pipe meets waste stack? Too much red meat in my diet?
What would be my best bet for getting it sorted? Plumber? Drain company?
Is there anything I can do myself? I've had my hand round the u-bend but didn't find anything unexpected.

Cool, I guess its [art nerves and part my over controlling OCD... that example you give sound like a good way for an asshole to fuck over people they pay to do something, I was after a way of safe guarding things so I don't end up sans bathroom and some sort of magically increasing bill "sorry mate, nothing I can do about it, that valve's not up to regs, going have to replace your whole flat".

Do you mean after a while, not enough water is coming into the pan? Have you taken the lid of the cistern and everything inside is working?
