looking at google maps the canal / river running between the two would be a great route i reckon
canal gent - brugge
they do cycle routes so well over there i'm sure the tow path will be cyclable well signposted and perfect for any bike -

As mentioned above - canal is good - mostly a nice wide tarmac path - here's a link:

The canal is great, I'm planning to incorporate this into a bikepacking trip this summer;

I'm from Ghent so I know the area :)
The canal from Bruges to Ghent is easy and quick, but really not a nice route. You even have to make a little detour around a concrete factory somewhere halfway.
My advice, if you have some time: check fietsnet.be. It's in Dutch only, but basically you can compile your own route by clicking the red numbered waymarks. You can then print your route on a convenient paper strip which you can tape to your toptube. Basically anything but the canal will be supernice.
It's not the quickest way to get from A to B, but I always cycle like this in Flanders. The numbered waymarks are extremely well indicated, at every junction there is a small green signpost indicating where you should go.
The canal will be quicker, but nowhere near as nice.
Good luck and enjoy, feel free to give me a shout if you need any more advice. -

I did Brussels, Ghent, Bruges. Zeeland, Antwerp, Brussels last summer, I'm away at the moment but can send the gps next week. PM me your email address.

I also live in Ghent, in laws live in Bruges so I do the route via the canal frequently. As said, it's boring but will get the job done. Here's a link to the gpx in reverse direction.
The Fietsnet option is cool if you have time and the weather is nice. Routing is straightforward and is good-ish throughout Belgium. The more scenic routes and towns all go south of the E40. The sings used look like this:

Thanks guys for all of your responses. Will give all of the suggestions some thought. I'm over there quite often so have a few options.
Cheers for taking the time out to reply

I have the same gxp as above, canal between the two. That's the most straightforward, easy and quick route.
However, as @Lieven_De_Vlaminck was saying, it's boring beyond imagination. It's good if you needto do Ghent/Bruges in the quickest time possible, but if you're touring I'd avoid it hands down.

There is another route, a bit more scenic, but not a bike specific path and only about 2k longer.
The few cars that you "may" encounter do tend to drive quite fast. -

if you do use the canal route make sure you don't miss the bridge over the canal about 8k out of Ghent and end up heading south rather than north west. It makes a big difference, especially if you're on your way back to pick up the car after the Tour of flanders sportive. I'd imagine this may be a problem, not that I have done this of course, or ended up having to retrace 20k, then send someone off on their own to get the car because it got too late and they were the only ones with enough left in the tank to make it in time, that would never happen :)

Anyone know of anything going on in Ghent this weekend? Four of us are doing this leg on Saturday as part of a cycle to Brussels from London, and can't find any rooms available for the Saturday night. If anyone has a lead, please PM me!
Hi Guys
Dont suppose anybody has a GPS route from Bruges to Ghent?
Thanks in advance
