Are you going to be walking or riding? If you're going to be riding, get road pedals. If you're going to be walking, get SPDs. If you're going to be doing both, with more walking than is strictly necessary to reach a lavatory or a place selling coffee, get SPDs.
I commute in SPDs, but I train and race using road pedal SPD-SLs. Different job, different pedals.
Another pedal related question, do I want to use road pedals? My roadie mates reckon they're winners and I'll feel the stiffness difference, but after getting some bargain FIzik R3s which are fantastically comfortable and light, I realised that the ability to walk is not one of the many features. Or should I just go for some Giro Republic or similar and enjoy not looking like Bambi?
