Cinelli Histogram - Component Help!

Posted on
  • Hi Guys and Girls.

After a run of hand me downs and ebay buys, i'm finally going to try and build my own bike!

Im a complete virgin to a fixed gear build, and I apologies in advance for any face to palm questions.

Here is what I have come up! I would really appreciate any suggestions you have, a majority of you are lot more experienced builders and riders!

    Frames: Cinelli Mash Histogram 2015 L 59cm

    Wheels: Miche Pistard Track Wheelset

Tyres: Continental Ultra Sport II or Vittoria Zaffiro Pro Slick

Any suggestions or alternatives best suited to fixed gear riding?

    Crankset: Miche Primato Advanced Track

Any suggestions for alternatives here? How does this compare to a Sram Omnium track?

Chain: No idea here! Whats a decent quailty black chain 1/8th?

BB: Miche Primato Track Bottom Bracket

Cassette: Miche Fixed Track / Miche Fixed Track Lockring

Any suggestions for alternatives here? Thinking of a 49x16 or 49x18? How is that around London? Im from Auckland, New Zealand so used to riding an entire city of hills!!

Seat Post/Seat: Cinelli Vai XL Seat Post / Selle Italia Max SLS
Bar / Stem: Cinelli Wand Black / Cinelli Mash Oversize Road Stem

I'm welcome to any suggestions here? Is this an area I should be saving on a and upgrading later?

Is there anything else stupid I have forgotten or overlooked?

Thanks for reading and to anyone that can spare a few minutes to help!

  • My experiences with some of the components :-

Miche Pistard wheelset (I had the tub version) - started ejecting spokes from the front wheel after a year. Wheel builder that I took it too said it was a crap design
Miche Primato cranks/chainrings - No problems here, however..
Miche bottom bracket - Is heavy and prone to corrosion and badly designed
Miche sprocket - will be on a carrier. I've not had a problem with it, although i'm not a fixieskidderz. Other people have had problems though.
Tyres - Both your choices I've had problems with, chiefly no puncture protection, and no grip in the wet.

You also seem to be missing a front brake...

  • Here's mine for inspiration although mine is track not tarck. I ride 48-17 on my commuter and I find that to be optimal for Central London.

Campag Record Pista Chainset 49T 165mm (I just wanted bling, I expect the Miche stuff would do the job)
    Campag Record Pista BB
    Fizik Arione
    Cinelli Pista Bars
    Cinelli Pista stem
    Cinelli Vai XL seat post
    Cinelli Caliedo tape
KMC 710SL Kool (I only use KMC chains and cannot fault them, but normally I'd use a Z510HX)
    PX 50mm carbon tubs
    Vittoria pista tubs
    On-one track cog 15T
    PX lockring
    Shimano M520s (I know!)

  • Avoid all Miche stuff, it's shite.

Buy a £10 stem and use the money you've saved to buy some Omniums. That's cranks, chainring and BB in one.

  • Thanks for the honest feedback guys! Appreciate it.

I have decided after reading what has been said here and doing some research that I am going to go with the SRAM Omnium over the Miche Primato

    Frames: Cinelli Mash Histogram 2015 L 59cm

    Wheels: Miche Pistard Track Wheelset

Tyres: Vittoria Zaffiro Pro or Continental Ultra Sport II

    Crankset: SRAM Omnium track

Chain: 1/2 x 1/8" Izumi Standard Chain http://www.wiggle.co.uk/izumi-12-standard-chain/ any other black or black and silver KMC or Izumi recommendations?

    What does the 1/2 mean?

Cassette: Miche Fixed Track / Miche Fixed Track Lockring?? @ 48-17

Not sure what to do here now, would kind of like a black set here? I have found the Shimano Dura Ace, but cant find a lock ring for the life of me. Any other recommendations?

Seat Post/Seat: Cinelli Vai XL Seat Post / Fizik Arione Saddle
Bar / Stem: Cinelli Pepper Black / Cinelli Vai XL Road Stem

Pedals No idea whatsoever here? Any strap recommendations?

  • buy a nice hand laced second hand wheelset off here. a second hand set of mavic ellipses!!

  • Not a bad shout! Whats the going price for a second hand set?

Have had a look, around 200. Which is some serious bang for buck, but I have to stop spending at some point. Later date upgrade
