Greenhithe/Northfleet/Dartford - Route advice sought

  • Can anybody tell me if it is possible to ride along these two lines:
    (Gmaps is inconclusive..)

Looks like there was some construction work in past and there could now be a cycle path along those lines?

    Ta

  • i was going to do the dartford crossing on tues or weds as the sun will be out all day
i can't see what sections you are talking about as the links don't look right but let me know and i can have a look

  • working now ... ok two section just past the dartford crossing i'll take a pen and paper

  • It is for the next Grain and Deal rides.
There is a hill there on A206/A226 intersection I'd like to avoid if possible.

  • Anybody live down there/ride through on the regular?

First one seems ok .. second one not so much

  • Hey @amey, thanks for showing me that page!

  • This is my commute route and whilst I'm not sure if either of your sections work the way I take to avoid that stretch of road is to turn left on the roundabout onto Station Road then right onto Eagles Road and right again onto the Avenue, this joins back onto the main road by the petrol station. I don't think it's worth going into Ingress Park as it's a bit of a dead end and I think you'll have to double back on yourself in order to return to the main road.

  • Cheers for that.

  • This would be my prefered quiet route from Ebbsfleet football club into town. The main stretch past Ebbsfleet train station has a wide cycle lane on the pavement which turns into a bus lane just before the police station. If you go straight over the roundabout after this there's a nice windy old industrial road (though be careful there might be glass near the pub) which takes you to the roundabout at Asda. It's definitely a more relaxed journey than London Road and the Overcliff which has a number of zebra crossings which stick out into the road and lots of little roads joining up.

  • Curiosity got the better of me this morning. The first map works perfectly, I think it's main purpose is a bus route so it's a nice freshly laid strip of road which was completely empty at rush hour. The second one wouldn't work exactly how you've mapped it but it is possible to exit Ingress Park via a path at the end of Reed Court which takes you onto Lovers Lane and back up to London Road, Lovers Lane was fenced off where these two paths meet so it wasn't possible to follow it down to the river.

  • Wow, thanks for having a scout about bmxed. Your local knowledge is super-helpful.

I will have the Deal night ride and the Isle of Grain ride coming through this area after leaving the river at Erith.

Just looking to find the right mix of minimising hills and distance on safe and smooth paths.

  • No problem, I like an explore.

Let me know if you need any more help.

  • Does anyone know the shortcut through the cement yard (joining Grove/The Creek to Granby/Crete Hall)?

    http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6835001

    Is it open at night?
Accessible during the day and on weekends. Super little shortcut that I would love to use on 'DEAL WITH IT' to avoid a hill and busy road (+ add to the general wtf nature of that ride).

  • I know the section you're on about and you're right it's an awesome little cut through that would cut a lot of hassle out of your route. However I've never tried to go through there at night so I don't know if/when they lock the gates.

  • I will have to take a night mission down there soon.

That and the journey across the empty space between Ingress Park and Manor Way (the other cement yard..) are some of my favourite sections down there.

    Big tyres only though.

  • Interestingly there might be a 'Paramount World' theme park developed across that area.

    Of two minds about it.

  • There's a fairly new road that links up Ingress park to the junction of Manor Way and London Road. It doesn't quite let you detour all of the main road but it cuts a chunk off it. I too enjoy a ride around that empty space, I hope Paramount never happens.

I've been through the cement yard a few times recently (though not at night) the gate on The Creek side has been wide open both times and there was no mention of gates getting locked at a certain time.

  • Cool, I will have to check that out!

    Thanks!

  • Would that be a through route from Ingrees Park Ave or just from the seawall?

  • Ta!

  • There's now a road between those two points I marked on the map, if you just go straight over the two roundabouts in Ingress Park then it leads you straight to it (it pretty much follows the tree line on the satellite image). I've used it a few times as an alternative stretch on the commute as it lets me cut out a load of traffic and I can continue onto the bus route past Greenhithe station.

  • Nifty.
That is such a help dude.

  • Tried that out on the weekend.

Minus a few horrid intersections and a nasty stretch of road.

    Cheers!
