  • Update: Basically I wasn't very careful and this time last week the bit of fake tooth snapped off - a little less readily than I'd have liked. I emailed them on Monday. Appointment booked for today. Went in at 5. Done by 5:15. Again, quick, friendly and professional (actually the work 'feels' better than last time - definitely smoother polishing).

And he didn't charge me a penny.

  • I'm moving abroad on Monday and my fucking filling has just come out.

Options seem to be trotting along to St Barts at 8.30 tomorrow morning to have a student attack my mouth, or getting an emergency appointment that also means I'll be having my anal passage forcefully expanded by a private clinic.

Does anyone know of a third, better option?

  • Depending on where you're based I've sat and waited here for 2 hours but at least they've sorted me out.

    May be worth a call?

  • you can buy emergency filling kits online could be an option......failing that get a hannable lectar mask :/

looks promising-thanks. Looks private-were they expensive? I called one up in Stokey and they wanted £50 just for the appointment, then treatment started at £200 irrespective of what needed doing...

  • what's wrong with getting yout teeth done by a student? They are closely supervised. I have had better treatment by students than my then dentist. i.e they gave me a better quality crown than the standard gold NHS one, it's all on the hospital teaching budget or something. Result.

  • I got NHS rates for my consultation, I only had an infection though.

They then tried to get me to book an appointment with the hygienist for which they were charging private rates.

  • I knew a dental student once. She scared me.

Seriously though, not so much that but they only see a limited no. of people and it's a bit like A+E so if someone's had their face smashed in at the pub they'll get treated and i'll sit and wait all day then get told to sod off... I'd rather know i can get it done before I leave.

  • hmm. will give them a shout now-thanks cake!

  • right, if you can't find a normal dentist to get you sorted then it might be worth going to King's as although they do have a limited number of slots but once you have signed up, you will be seen. They start taking registering at 8am and then 1pm, I think. It's all on their website.

  • went to Pickering as per cake's suggestion this morning and think it's all sorted... was seen in an hour as a walk in and it was pretty chilled out. £47 inc. appointment fee to put a patch on my filling, and the chap took x-rays and cleaned them too for free so all good.

Saying this, I will apparently need the whole tooth removed at some point because the last dentist didn't fill it properly and now there's a gap underneath the old filling that is worryingly close to the nerve so that's something to look forward to when in Sweden i guess. ouch.

would definitely recommend this place if you're in a bind and don't want to get screwed over by private consultation fees etc.

  • I need to go to the dentist. Gloom.

Who can recommend a decent NHS dentist around Dulwich/Forest Hill?

Ah, glad it worked out. Always wary of recommending things, particularly something like a dentist!

  • Well massive thanks-it's one of these things that if you are in pain you'll freak out and spunk a huge load of cash on anyone who'll put their tackle in your mouth to sort it out (to put it in a weird sexually allusive way).

Bar the hospital there seem to be very few dentists that will do emergency/walk in appointments which isn't much use if your tooth is half off and exposing raw nerve which leaves people with nowhere to go but the £200 to rinse your mouth out crew...

  • Resurrecting a old topic here. I have a dentist question for the dentists in here!

So I got root treatment on a tooth about 2/3 months ago, the dentist done it then put a temp filling on it. I went back two weeks later she put a proper white filling in it but left it high so for a week I was like biting into this high white filling till she filed it down also when she done the filling she gave me no jag as the root was dead so I shouldn't feel pain(I didn't)

Since she filled it down I was like getting numb pain in the tooth, she said it was the root treatment settling down and could take 6 weeks or so, well that then and its still giving me this sorta dull pain it comes and goes but when I mentioned it at the various appointments after she sorta brushed it off as I've said its gonna settle.

Apart from the cost, Im worried that I'm gonna loose the tooth because the root canal maybe hasn't taken right or she hasn't done it deep enough. Is there any way this could be correct or that maybe the filling has pushed itself deeper than it should have beaucse the filling was high to begin with.

Also I've spoke to my folks/friends etc that have all had it and they say basically after it felt nothing and have had that for years....

Im gonna go back but not sure what to do as every time i said she said it xrayed fine and that it was gonna settle.

    Thanks

  • Have a few root canals. Never had pain after. The finesse for the dentist is always how deep is the inflammation. Hence from memory drill, fill tooth with medicine if necessary temporary filling, time (def. longer then two weeks, maybe two month), X-ray, check, white filling.

The latest root canal the dentist was confident enough to fill it straight away with white filling as he was sure the tooth was "dry".

  • Im not sure if I would describe it as pain, its not tooth ache but its not right i'd say. Its a sorta dullness that comes and goes....

So you got a root canal and then didn't get it filled for 2 months?

  • I had a root canal last year, joys of ignoring a missing filling. Had an deep achey feeling on and off for months; I'd say it hurts, and dentist would look at me funny. All seems fine now.

  • While we're here - anyone recommend a decent SE15ish dentist?

  • Trying to bring an old thread back to life...

My crown fell out last night and this morning I had a choice to go back to my NHS dentist near London Bridge or go to Halfmoon Dental in Herne Hill, which is fully private... I decided I am gonna go posh based on my last less than ideal experience with my NHS dentist (he didn't really give a shit about my concerns). Oh boy ain't I glad I went to Halfmoon! Not only did they get my crown refitted right away, they also spotted a couple problems that my NHS dentist has failed or didn't give a shit to point out.

  • Any Islington/Haringey recommendations. Private is cool.

  • Oh Forum, like croft said ^:

    Any reputable Dentists in Haringey?
(Particularly Crouch End/Hornsey area for me)

    Ta!

  • These guys are in London Bridge and are excellent. Not too spendy for private either.

  • Define 'Not too spendy'.
    I have no metrics.

    :)

  • First appointment with full mouth work up £75. Large filling replacement £175.

^ Thats the only work I have had done there. I used the same £££ Harley Street dentist for 10 years and this is the first place I have been to where I'm happy that the treatment is top class for less money. I've tried three or four on the way to settling on this one. Mrs Hedge love this place too.
