Plastic church attendance NE liberal Christianity in my book. It's a way to get school places and ideally the church gets removed.
Liberal Christianity is more people that believe but are secular and pro LGBT/women's rights.
Things get a lot worse in Jewish/Muslim schools unfortunately and some pockets of regression in Northern Irish schools.

This might make you rethink:
Unless you like 5ive that is. Or 2 of 5ive.

Thought the Brexit lot didn't like black Americans coming over here, shoving their noses into our debate?

Oh, but wasn't he great on the Today Programme this morning, blaming the elite bankers and industrialists for all the problems with the EU?
I recon if they had pushed him a little harder he would have gone full Ike and started ranting about the Illuminati, Bilderberg and shapeshifting lizards. -

As for harmless...faith schools are anything but and most religions aren't nice to women.>
I was thinking more of small parish churches with diminishing congregations, whose disapearance leaves some without a community.
-
• #40891
Yes I agree there. I guess a community center should step in, but with all the government cuts...
In rural Ni many things such as childcare and after school revolve around churches. But there's no alternative for the non believers at all.

So you were positing that the reason people are 'jubilant' about the fall in religiosity is that they hate lonely little old ladies who go to country churches? Do get fucked.
-
• #40893
No I was positing that the fall in religiosity isn't a simple case of oppressive, patriarchal doctrines getting what they deserve. Harmless people are affected too. The reason people are 'jubilant' is they ignorantly assume all religion is evil. Your 'do get fucked' reaction, looking for an argument where there isn't one, is similar to your attitude to religion. The world isn't all black and white.

That's a bit shit. Part of my point is that if communities are based around a church, to get rid of that church too quickly, before there is a secular alternative, could be harmful.

I was thinking
Uh huh
(not you, kl)

Or it forces adaption, specifically away from reliance on a social mechanism based on a sky-wizard and chock full of prejudice.

Religious people don't have a monopoly on prejudice, as shown in this thread.
