  • Kielder = big swampy forest by the border, full of midges
Smidge = a bit like DEET but less toxic

  • I've not encountered these famous midges before. I like forward to the compare and contrast with the Aussie mozzie.

Does the organiser usually do GPS files or detailed route sheets such that someone more map-loving might be making a GPS?

If it all comes together I might actually be riding the new bike on this.

  • That sound right up my alley... not.

So that's ~13,000m of climbing in a 600k? PBP climb condensed into half the distance.

  • Less deadly, more irritating would be my estimation...

Should get a detailed route sheet, unsure if Andy will do a GPX. I'll trace one out from the route sheet and I assume several others will do the same so you'll probably be alright there...

  • At least 13,125m to count for the AAA points, assume the actual amount would be a little more...

  • Yippeee! Spanks!

  • That would be amazing if Andy can get a Super Randonnee over here in the UK.

I rode one in the Pyrenees and it was proper.

His 50 hours is wrong. Basically, any 600 with over 10000m of ascent can qualify (see below) and has 50 hours to do it. More elevation gain = even more time. So, the one I rode had 15000m of ascent and had 60 hours.

So it would have mid 50s to complete it.

Calculating ascent on our little sharp up and downs seems harder than on 20-30km ascents in France. I believe Sophie (who runs them for ACP) ran the Pendle through the software they use and it was a no even though it nominally has 10000m of ascent.

  • It is definitely happening.

  • I'm doing the shark as a DIY on the 2nd July if you wanted to join me, it is a tough ride solo!

  • There is much much better cafés at the AWE and a nice Larrington.

  • But you live in Greenwich I know.

  • Will prob do AWE in August, I'm now working on Sunday 3rd so The Shark is a shorter day on the 2nd.

  • a nice Larrington.

I love it when phrases like this jump forums.

  • I did a Larrington on Down to Downs perm a while ago. Brasted vs Polhill...

  • Down to Down Toys Hill vs Chartwell Westerham.

  • A225 last time from Tonbridge how I had ended up there don't ask after Langton Green and Penshurst take a right that descent is nice hang on where am I?

Always A225 and behold the joy when no navigation last leg late winter evening suddenly what is this ? Eynsford! And many a times left to St Mary Cray I had once turned right after the motorway and knew there would be Swanley!

  • Finally got my FWC done.

  • Rode it today solo. Leave something in the tank for Toys Hill on the way home. Also leave a little for Hogtrough which hits you up the face like a big salmon shortly after.

  • What's the score? 25 points? I picked up a card last year and have slowly been filling it in. Mostly 200s and hilly 100s.

  • Yes, you need to get 25 points. Took me about 3 years and most points were from last year. Thought about getting the badge but it would just end up in drawer.

Now I have an empty SFW card (SR series on fixed) to fill in. This time it has to be all in the same season.

  • Doing a 200km DIY perm on Saturday based on Mr. Pickwick's Summer Saunter. Starting from Aston Keynes rather than Tewksbury and also going anti-clockwise. Staying with friends who live very close to the start and will be riding out tomorrow. It's about 160km away. I made it a DIY rather than riding the actual perm so that I could tweak the route a bit and validate via GPS rather than receipts.

  • Brought some memories back, that trailer - ended up as a DNF during LEL2013 having packed at Kirton on the way home.

2017's on the bucket list. Got scores to settle!
