  • Nice one, I'm after one of those this year!

  • Sent my FWC brevet card off to Richard Phipps yesterday for validation. Very anxious about it getting lost in the post. Feels like my passport has gone.

  • What is everyone riding in the next few months? I'm after RRTY after getting my SR, my plans are

    5th June: Ditching Devil 200k
    2nd July: DIY 200k
15th July: Herward the Wake 300k
TBC August: DIY (probably The Shark) 200k
    17th September: Greenwich Meanclimb 300k

Got a mate coming over from Stockholm for Meanclimb, I am going out to do Vatternrundan with him in June and this is the return leg, quite different 300's in both profile and scenery!

  • Only one of those I'll be on...

    June: Asparagus and Strawberries 400
July: DIY 200 of some kind - already away for basically all of July, so will not get away with Kingdom of the East Saxons unfortunately
    August: @marcusjb 's Cogidubnus CC 200
    September: The Flatlands 600 maybe

  • 5th June: Ditchling Devil 200k (say hello when collecting cards, will try and remember to wear LFGSS cap)
Feb 2017: Brazier's Run 100 (including 75km ride to the start)
    June 2017: Ditchling Devil 200k
    July 2017: LEL

  • I would have loved to do Marcus's ride, but will be riding to Paris and back with a few mates that weekend.

  • Will do! I will be in Audax Club Hackney kit.

Yes to LEL, literally can't wait until July 2017!

  • Anyone else riding Three Steps to Severn on Saturday?

  • Did the Pinkie Brown 100k with a friend in Brighton yesterday. Very nostalgic as I used to live there many years ago and good weather. Cycled home to add some extra distance.

Just book Asparagus & Strawberries. Will be my first 400. Fixed more than likely.

  • an advice request, what's the lowest cost solution to the desire to use a dedicated GPS computer to follow the GPS tracks available on the Audax UK website?

    eg., the Garmin Edge 200 would tick the box (at £70 on eBay), but it appears that you can only upload routes from Garmin Connect (instead of the Audax UK route files?);

advice/pointers appreciated, otherwise gonna stick with the paper printouts (and occasional mid-ride RideWithGps / Strava map-checks!)

  • a used 800 would be the best bet or you can 'replicate' the routes in garmin connect and get 200 ..

  • I have an 800 which I use all the time for Audax, but if I was to buy again (for routing only) I would get an etrex 20 or 30. Purely for the reason it uses AA batteries, the 800 will barely last 12 hours if routing and recording, which means you need to have a means of charging it on the go, not the end of the world but if you get into longer stuff being able to use standard batteries is a big plus. The bike mount looks shit though.

  • Might throw in an entry for DD200
Will likely ride Tan Hill 600 if I can get a gpx for it.
Not sure what else is upcoming that doesn't clash with races.

  • You could buy my Garmin Vista HCx unit and use that :)

  • Edge 520 is probably the cheapest new option. You can replace the base map and transfer gpx/tcx files. Battery life is claimed at 15 hours with GPS

  • Doing Ditchling Devil, Straight out of Hackney and then just need to find a 400 to finish off SR series. Thinking I probably will try to do National 400. If I skip Dunwich Dynamo I can probably justify it with family...
If I can successfully forgot how painful greenwich mean climb was last year I might end up doing that again. The food at the end was great... but not sure that's enough to get me through Hogstrough Lane after 250k+ a load of climbing beforehand.

  • also entered the Ditchling Devil, would like to attempt a Dunwich Dynamo and back, possibly avec @Rod_Munch,

also intending to DIY The Shark, have printed off the route sheet,

    there's a 200k starting in Chelmsford in the diary too (Audax Uk);

ps., thx for the Garmin recommendations, gonna stick with the paper route sheets + phone combo for now.. (not yet ready to part with the £300 most suitable solution!)

  • pps., Straight Outta Hackney was Ace last year, would deffo like to ride that again, but start on time this year, to qualify for more beer at the end if the shed finish happens again!

  • I can recommend the Etrex. The battery life is good and you can carry spare AA batteries with you.
You can use routes from the Audax site.
Also I use this to export GPX files from Garmin Connect.

  • I've only ever had the Etrex 20 and it has been totally reliable during all my rides both Audax and others. I bought it based on advice from this site, from yacf and general searches on the subject.

Took a bit of experimentation to start with till I settled on tracks over routes. Getting it set up in the way you like is the hard part. I tend to edit gpx files or create my own if only route sheets are provided.

  • Hi there, anybody riding Dros Fynyddoedd ac Anialwch Niwlog this Saturday? Was sort of thinking about it but could use a lift from London.

  • I did a quick plot between controls following quietest looking roads. Only 17km overdistance, 2000m extra climbing crept in somehow... :(

Stocking up on Smidge for the trip through Kielder

  • Smidge? Kielder? che cosa fai?

  • While having a click round the Burnley CC site I spotted this...

    "Knock Ventoux 600 (AA 13.25): Under development/consideration. A 600 km Audax Super-Grimpeur through the Pennine chain! Qualifies for a 50-hour time-limit."
