  • Dope. Great colour too! Hows the chainring for commuting, dont you spin out?

  • ^^ super rad

  • Thanks! Yeah it is a bit too small, but no money atm :D also it isn't narrow-wide so have to upgrade to that too. Also on the list are new gears, that old Shimano 7-speed shifter isn't working too well anymore.

  • New beater. Swapped the pedals and saddle on and I'm gong to fit some drops, but not sure what colour tape to go for.

And if anyone knows a way to fit an octalink BB to a French threaded frame I'd be very interested.

  • Nice. Sort out saddle angle.

  • Trying new aksium out, extremely happy with this set up now, may upgrade cranks in coming months

  • Thanks. Yeh, it doesn't seem to want to adjust past there, will have a proper look tomorrow.

  • Same colour tape as the saddle would look good

  • Hmm, I guess I've just never used the little ring, even at Hog Hill. Certainly didn't realise 1x was so risky for racing on.

  • like this, i got an ant stem and chilli risers for my latest 90's one

  • I'm having the same issue, sort of. I switched to 1x10 for TTing but couldn't find a cheap 53t 110BCD narrow wide chainring. I'm currently using a conventional stronglight TT chainring with ramps and pins etc. and have now dropped my chain in 2 out of the 10 races I've done on this setup (plus once in training).

I guess it's about whether you judge the risk of dropping the chain to be a worthwhile cost to whatever benefits you get from 1x.

I'm sticking with it for the time being but keeping a lookout for solutions (decent chain catcher/ Narrow wide chainring/ clutch deraileur) etc. but if it continues I may just switch back to a conventional 2x setup.

  • it is very personal I'd say .. you can give it go by getting a cheap FSA crankset and some cheap 110BCD narrow wide ring that should suffice for a crit without chain drops.

    .

some cheap 110BCD narrow wide ring

    Link please

  • i reckon the only way would be to rethread to english. i did a quick search on the interwebz but i believe its doable. might be worthwhile also for the future to get rid of those pesky french threads..;)

You won't find a 53 at any price, narrow-wide only works on even tooth counts ☺

Warhawk in the US do any size any PCD, pricing is not unreasonable considering they're made to order, but they are flagging up long lead times.

Silly mistake is silly... that would be why I couldn't find any :-)

Those Warhawk ones do look decent value, shame about the slow lead time as I have a colleague travelling to visit from the US soon and it would be convenient if they could guarantee a delivery time so he can bring it.

  • First test, rode nice. Fit pretty well as is, but might still play with saddle position a bit. Maybe try inline post and optimistic #slamthatstem.

  • It's not so much that its risky.... it's just kinda pointless. You aren't going to win a crit by being 300g lighter, but you might lose one by dropping a chain and not having a derailure to help you re-mount it.

You could make the same point about a cross or XC race - but then at least you've gained something through better mud clearance, simpler controls and shorter chainstays...

  • Amber bikes also do custom sizing I think

  • Not sold on green bits soz.

Also matte black forks would be tidyz

  • The bar tape seems pretty crap anyway, thin and (presumably) slippery plasticky stuff. Will probably redo at some point. I did think about rattle canning the forks, but now that I got the bike built up I'm not sure if I can be bothered to.

  • Nice saddle if you what to sell it one day let me know !
You have to rethread the frame to be BSC for go octalink

  • Gloss black vinyl could do the trick nicely. You could keep the 3T logos if you wanted.

I think I might like the cages without the tape.

  • I think black tape / black forks / keep the cages would be my plan too. I'll see what I can do.
