  • oh well hopefully will not get to that point...;) will be a shame to split them both. But if I do ended up splitting frame/groupset I'll let you know anyways.

  • Delighted to be joining the prestigious Olmo Club with this little 50th Anniversary Sintex SLX number I nabbed the other day...not a scratch on the frame, doesn't look like it's been ridden at all:)

  • Nice. What are you planning for the build?

  • Not sure yet. Got another project I'm just about finished, need to decide if I should take the parts off that to use for the Olmo or finish what I started and start sourcing new parts for this. Can't afford to keep both bikes I don't think, as much as I'd like to...one will have to go I reckon

  • Saw an absolutely beautiful red/gold accents Olmo road bike today. It was an older woman and I mentioned it was an incredible looking bike...the bike was immaculate. She laughed and mentioned that very rarely does anyone ever say anything about the bike..she gets way more compliments on her $1000 carbon Specialized.

She was going to give it to her son but he saw it as too "old fashioned" so she kept it.

I asked if she was ever considering selling it and gave me a firm no...guess she bought it new back in the 80's.

I rarely if ever see Olmo's when out riding, especially one so clean.

  • My new Olmo Sanremo about to be built this weekend and, hopefully, ridden too!

  • Nice! Might have been an Olmo Competition. Where was that?

  • Hi guys, would you be able to help me finding out what model is this?

    Thanks in advance

  • No cut-outs on the edge of the lugs, no panto on the seatstays and what appears to be not a chromed chainstay - seems to be an older entry-level model. The 105 group also points in that direction. A photo of the columbus sticker with the name of the tubeset would be helpful.

p.s. obviously the lugs have 'regular' cut outs, what i meant were the cut-outs on the edge of the lug as seen below. Afaik, this kind of cut-out was a feature of the high or top-range models like the sintex, competition, leader or my scatto (slx).

  • Thanks for the info.

I think it might be a leader, would I be right?

    Also has 27x1 wheels.

    Here's more pics

  • Aelle tubing - as I suspected - indicates that it is indeed an entry-level model. I don't think it's a leader since they were usually made from higher quality tubesets + as I mentioned before, afaik leaders have the round cut-out at the edge of the headtube lugs.

If you want to find out the model, google: "olmo aelle" and see if you can find info on what models used this tubeset. This olmo gran prix comes pretty close, although the decals indicate that it is older than yours: http://www.mytenspeeds.com/My_TenSpeeds_1/Bicycles_Table/Italian_Bicycles/Olmo_Bicycles/Olmo_GrandPrix_Orange/OlmoOrange_FullSide.jpg

  • My Super Gentleman is Aelle. And it's definitely not lower end, it also has the same forks as yours does @dazzrie (photo below)
I'd assume late 70's early 80s for yours. Check out:

Which can be useful for dating Olmos from this period
Edit: has it been repainted? Just those decals and the details of the frame seem odd to me?

  • What he means for entry level is that the Aelle tubing was, asfaik, not a tubeset for professional racers, but rather for amateur/touring framesets.
That doesn't mean that they didn't care about quality or anything else.

  • That Grand Prix looks quite close apart from the forks. What would you say it worth if I was to put up for sale, as it's too small for me :(

  • The paint seems original I believe, the decals do seem odd as there is no mode name on the top tube as I see on others. Would the 27x1 wheel size help date it?

  • Ah right, I'm with ya!

  • Exactly what he said! I didn't mean to belittle the frame. I also had a kotter aelle frame and the finish was superb, completely chromed under the paint with lovely pantos, unfortunately it was a bit too large for me.

  • How much would you price my bike at? @anidel @mjw1988

  • No idea mate...

  • In the meanwhile, the Olmo has been completed and tested positively!!
