The bearings are in the frame, the adapters go into the bearings.
As it stands, the adapters are out - they come out easily with the DA cranks but the bearings are still in place. The new axles won't fit through these bearings.

Well, burn the whole think because that's the wrong way round. Your cranks and frame are probably already toast :-)
