  • Team bike from Team lotto caloi mxl on 2dehands.be for the next week or so. Owner looking for bids around €800 which seems a very good deal to me.

  • Large Eddy Merckx strada Team Hitachi on Ebay 191850550334

  • Very fortunate to have inherited this:

1983 Eddy Merckx Professional Aero with 50th Anniversary Group and ICS down tube shifters

  • That is beautiful.

  • Thank you :)

  • That is beautiful.

yes but it's not an aero. It has aero shifters but it's not the aero model Merckx used to have back than. He had one with aero shaped tubing and forks. I used to have one myself but sold it to a friend. I'll ask him some pictures of the frame so you can see the difference.

But nevertheless this is a great bike.

If I recall there was an option for Corsa Extra to get the shifter boss up high to mount them behind the down tube but I don't recall any "aero". Merckx did some funny bikes (Chrono) and a number of special one-offs but I don't recall Merckx ever using Columbus Air tubes-- sure it was not a DeRosa made Merckx?

  • As far as I remember, it was a "Professional". It had an elleptoid downtube and "raindrop" formed seattube. I'll ask some photos. It came with a Campa 50th Anniversary gruppo so must have been from mid eighties.

  • Hi Merckx-owners. Before I'm putting this in the classifieds: anyone interested in some NOS Silva "Eddy Merckx" bartape? I'm asking 10 € per set (+ postage).

    Cheers
    Wim

  • This one should be arriving by the end of next week:

  • Ooh Hitachi, I do like that colour scheme

  • Indeed, Hitachi. I bought it as a tribute to Claudy Criquilion who lived 30 km from here. I rode his Cyclosportive in the Ardennes (http://www.velomediane.com) already 9 times and upcoming august, I hope to ride it with this bike and with the team jersey I already have in my cupboard.

  • In fact I'm aiming for the whole 1989 set of Corsa Extra's... (already 've got the 2 on the right; 6 more to go...).

  • "new" frameset arrived today. In doubt about how to build it up. Modern groupset or the Campa Chorus (first gen) I recently found.

  • Nice frame!

  • Looks nice. I see Mavic sponsored them in 88/89. Tried to look online what group the team bikes had but can't find any Team pictures. Wonder if they ran Mavic groups?

  • they did ride Mavic groupsets. Think they used the Mavic 851 groupset. Hard to find...

Maybe I just put a modern groupset on it as I like the bike's colour scheme and want to use it for "real" cycling (cyclesportives and things like that). The Chorus will look good on the Denti too, I guess. Or on the Team Stuttgart as they used Campa back than.

  • New Merckx MX leader. I am after assistance on which groupset to look for and general ideas on how to improve the bike and have created a project thread -

Any help /ideas are gratefully received.

  • Waaaw, great bike! But as the MX Leader was top of the bill, you really should put a Record groupset on it. And a quill stem. ;-)

    Wim

  • Ah so that was you that won it. I bid too but pockets weren't so deep.

Lovely lovely frame. Seller really didn't do it justice don't you think.

I'm only 5 minutes from where it came from, are you close too?

I'd have kept the wheelset and tried to build up with 90s record 9sp. Could be a nice slow burn project as it'll be a nice ride whilst gathering parts.
