It makes no sense to me. If the recipe section is very popular it's a crap way to axe costs surely?
They're used, they're offer the BBC brand a good step up (and people may have a look elsewhere, that you can check with server stats...).
Maybe BBC can't get ad revenue from the recipes website, but private companies can?
