  • a couple of kg makes a shed load of difference, all other things equal

    *Puts down biscuits *

  • shots fired

  • You've ridden up a mountain in a group, right?

And not with a group of audax beards - with a group of roadie douches with good engines

Then a couple of kg makes a shed load of difference, all other things equal

I'm working at being 75kg's for the summer, for this exact reason.

  • Ever ridden a proper hillclimb bike?

  • like the illegal one that that french guy got caught using at a Continental event the other weekend? 6.1 kg... think the single chainring gave him away though and he was disqualified.

  • Yeah about that. <6kg.

  • But not making the bike lighter as @Howard said?

  • I'm building it from scratch Ed, it's getting parts which are specific to my use case, which largely involves climbing and descending mountains, sometimes on gravel roads.

I'm not setting out to make a heavy bike.

  • I think there's a big difference between nasty hill climb style climbs in the UK and long linear ones in the French alps. Weight is all about acceleration, so if you're just keeping up a nice tempo going up the galibier I would say weight is less important than riding steep lumpy stuff where you have to change speed all the time.

  • You have a finite amount of gas in the tank. It takes some of that gas to move a dead 1kg 1,400 meters vertically. Or 3000m if it's a big day. So don't carry the 1kg if you don't have to :)

    That's all, really.

  • Or ideally, give it to @eyebrows to carry for you :p

  • He can carry my brakes up the mountain? SWEET.

  • Best place to get caad10? As in best deal.

  • full bike / frame only / disc / caliper brake?

    Delete as appropriate

  • full bike or frame only / caliper brake. Plz

  • Full bike / caliper or disc

  • If thats fails then ill have to consider the caad12

  • shit photo of the latest addition to my stable which I believe entitles me to membership here :)

  • I've got the period Si SL crank and wired SRM to go with that

    Just sayin'

  • propa nawtie

@musa just get a CAAD12. Both available and nominally better than the 10

  • Recently received my Sisl2 and Hylix carbon seatpost, both really freaking light than the ones I had before.

Hylix Seatpost... Got a couple of problems already, bolts are not matching in length and screw size, saddle cradle doesnt line up with the saddle rails so I had to use an alloy one as a proxy until I get a replacement. Horrible to set up.. makes me think if going thomson would've been a better..

  • how much lighter than the thomson was it? probabily rides better though

  • The hylix weighed are 133grams compared to cannondale's stock 298grams.

Haven't ridden it yet so can't comment, all I can say is its stupidly light that it makes me wonder if it's strong enough to not break or something ..

  • oh noes! the worst has happened, my caad12 has developed creakiness in the bb area :-/

  • Ah, just removed everything, copper grease the shell and fit again.

just be careful of the cable guide underneath.
