  • Well that would fucking suck.

  • I have exchanged on my flat and my new house.
Looks like I'll be a North West Londoner in 8 days!

  • Congrats! Here endeth the pain...

  • Cheers,

There's still time for things to go tits up, but fingers crossed.

  • So life insurance, mortgage protection insurance etc. We still haven't sorted ours out.

Our mortgage broker has a guy, but we never really get round to it.

Is it something we can just do ourselves online?

Basically I just want to have the mortgage covered if one of us dies and 1-2yrs mortgage if one or both of us are critically ill. Maybe a 1-4 months in the event of redundancy - but less fussed about that.

  • I thought you were talking about moving in before exchange. Post exchange is mega low risk, but it does happen, as princeperch testifies.

Ive had 3 in maybe 2500 transactions, all were because something was discovered that hadn't been disclosed previously, none on purpose.

Based on these odds you'll probably be just fine. Just don't tell the lawyers.

Worth finding out how much would your pension pay out if you popped it?

  • It's also worth looking at whether your work offers anything. I'm looking at changing mine at the moment and I've discovered that I get life insurance of 4x salary with work.

  • Go Compare the Meerkat etc.

  • pension

    What's that then?

Jokes aside, my work is rubbish for sick pay, etc. so I'll need to insure against it. We've had rough quotes from L&G around £25-75 pm (divided between us). Its just sorting it out really.

    Comparison websites it is.

Thanks for the pointers though. Definitely things to consider for my other half.

  • Thinking about getting a fairly substantial L shaped dormer on my Victorian terrace, with a master bedroom and ensuite and a smaller double bedroom over the exisiting back extension.

I know plenty of people who have had the bog standard former done for 30k give or take but don't know anyone who has had an L shaped dormer installed . has anyone here had one done and am I massivly off the mark that I shouldn't need to spend more than about 45k ish for it all in from a reasonable building company circumventing the need for an architect ?

  • I have an IKEA Angersby coffee table that is free to whoever picks it up from SE23- it's this one https://www.gumtree.com/p/dining-tables-chairs/wooden-coffee-table-with-two-glass-levels/1169256351

  • Fucking finally exchanged. Complete on Thursday.

Five days of both sides of the transaction chasing solicitors just because an email attachment was too large and hadn't been received. This process needs to be brought into the 21st century somehow.

  • Congrats!

Aiming for 20th century would be an improvement. Lawyerly nostalgia for the Victorian era needs to end.

  • I'm getting fed up with my bit of SE London. The three miles between me and Greenwich are always a pain on the bike: idiot drivers everywhere and nasty roads. But I can't see how I could afford to move closer in. Grumble.

  • Obviously move to Bromley. 2 houses on sale next to me.... Like next to me. We could be neighbours and I could tell you to turn off your washing machine!

  • Cheers.

Stamp duty is also bullshit. I'm fairly certain I've already paid tax on that money...

  • In fact I've even paid tax on the interest from the savings I used.

  • Just frustrated. Today I was cut up by a fat man in a BMW X5 who was eating crisps. I was thinking "it'd be shit if I died because a fat man was eating crisps and ran me over," when I saw him just up ahead, finish his snack, and throw the packet straight out of the window. I called him on it at the red light and he told me to "fuck off".

I feel that event is a perfect microcosm of SE London.

@ChainBreaker doesn't even live here: I've never actually seen him...

  • That was tax you paid for the privilege of earning the money. This is tax to pay for the privilege of spending the money. The tax on your savings was for the privilege of not spending the money.

  • Group ride to Franco in the opening week? I'll get you a pizza @Sparky to get rid of your grumps :P

I say ride, it could be a brisk walk ;)

    Opens mid-June I think.

  • There's a new pop up Pizza near me (Maze Hill) that looks promising

Not been yet but they're working with the Crown pub

If Franco Manca takes too long

  • Anyone used Southern Electric for their broadband?
I'm thinking of switching as it's half the price of Sky for basically the same service.
Would be interested to hear of anyone's experience.
