I've had it with these https://uk.protectyourbubble.com/carhire-insurance.html If you're planning to hire for more than about three or four days or so in a year it works out cheaper to get an annual policy.
They paid out to my mate with only a moderate amount of hassle after he'd been charged by a hire company.
