I'm not buying the totteringham stuff. They lost the league at the start of the campaign. It took something like 6 games before they won anything...Since then it was catch up. I can understand the collapse given how close they came. I find the arsenal posturing a tiny bit pathetic.
Looking at Liverpool; coming so close (2nd in '09 & '13) and getting nothing usually spells trouble* for the following season as progress is seen = winning it. I reckon not only must they be able to keep the players they want but they'd have to buy very wisely to keep the current squad on their toes to be ready to get noses to the grind.
*IIRC our managers have been gone the following season. Houllier went 2 years after runners up in 2001.
