Given past history of collaboration with Giro, it's probably something like that.

Perhaps there's a future tie in with a front basket to store the helmet should it need releasing ?

Do mesh base layers actually make you cooler than just wearing a jersey on really hot days?

My experience of the Craft one is that it's hotter. I'd rather go without on a warm day.

from limited experience I would say no.

From wearing one at 40+ in the Alps last summer I would say yes, what they do is wick sweat away from the body quickly so you feel cooler
