Your Garmin help, please

  • In my experience, not that strong.

  • Hi, this may be a common problem but I didn't find the answer using search. When I create a route on Garmin Connect sometimes I hit the save button and all is well, but most of the time I hit the button and nothing happens. The button acts as if it's been clicked but it doesn't actually save and Connect stays in edit mode. It's driving me crackers. Any help please?

  • Use RidewithGPS instead?

  • Have you tried hitting save then leaving it for a couple of minutes? I find the Connect courses function to be glacially slow to save but gets there eventually.

  • Always use ridewithgps instead. ALWAYS

  • Yeah, I've gone for bikemap.net, ridewithgps wanted money to do some stuff.

    5awyr, I'll give that a go, cheers.

  • I've not paid RWGPS to do anything yet but I probably will, it's very good.

  • Bought a month subscription to cut a route from Cph to Riga into chewable TCX bits - will soon do it again for the Cph to Vienna trip.

  • Any ideas for unblocking my garmin?

All software should be up to date, I've tried restarting everything, and I've tried creating new activities to unblock the error. Internet connection and access to garmin connect all working fine.

I want my race data garmin!

  • Wait and try it again. Connect is flakey, like Garmin software in general.

  • Amazing news!

Garmin Edge product successfully navigates BCM600 AND doesn't crash once during 30hr+ ride!

Finally, Garmin have a product out of beta testing. Okay, you need to use a second battery but the Edge actually seems to be a useful product as opposed to something they're testing on users.

  • Bastard thing only seems to sync when plugged in...

  • Garmin Edge product successfully navigates BCM600 AND doesn't crash once...

    This was the 1000?

  • I only ever plug mine in. Bluetooth and WiFi post-Snowden? umadbro?

  • I tried, but couldn't reach the satellite

  • DAMMIT ALL!

Firmware of Edge Touring updated to 4.0.

I had it nicely set up so when it loaded the route it would do no calculation of its own and just plonk a pink line on the map that I would follow (no white arrows on it or anything). All turn guidance set to Off.

This no longer works in 4.0 and loading any route makes it display the dreaded "calculating" which it does for ages (about 2 minutes yesterday for a 7 mile route) and calculates a slightly shitter version of what I'd planned. Both its version and my original are then displayed on the map, but if I follow mine then I get "U-Turn" messages anytime I deviate from what it thinks I should be doing. Also does the annoying thing of zooming into the map at junctions - should be useful in theory but unit is too slow - it essentially blank screens then slowly loads the junction, then takes an age to go back to normal map screen.

Now how the hell do I roll back to what I had before? Anyway of knowing what firmware you were previously on?

    Ahg!

  • If there was ever a good reason to not use Garmin Express... Let me know if you ever manage to work around it, otherwise I'll avoid the 4.0 firmware! If you find a way to grab the 2.9 firmware then I can be a willing donor.

  • Can't see 2.90 listed at my go-to site for Garmin firmware :(
    http://www.gmaptool.eu/en/content/edge

  • Quite!

Thread on the Garmin forum suggests it is a known issue that might get fixed: "Thank you all for reporting the issue. We have passed the information on to the Edge Touring team. We are investigating the root cause and apologize for the inconvenience."

I've rolled back to 2.9 and will stay there for the time being!

  • How did you roll back to 2.9? I was looking for info on that to pass on, but couldnt find anything...
