• Hi all,

Searched long and hard for a couple days and can't seem to find a solution to this anywhere. Information is conflicting or not applicable so new thread it is!

Long story short, I bought a GXP BB, trying to install it with Rival crankset and there's a clearance issue. Following the SRAM instructions (none came with BB), everything goes smoothly until I crank the NDS crankarm down and then I get problems:

Without any washers, there's a couple mm play for the spindle and it feels loose (you can wobble it about). As per SRAM instructions, I've tightened crankarm to 54nm
With washers it clamps down the whole system and it won't turn freely.

The BB shell is exactly 68mm so I don't think that's the issue (the pic shows wonky vernier but it was measured properly). Although previous owner mentioned an issue with using external BB, it was rather non-specific and as long as the shell is 68mm, I assumed it would be a non-issue.
The BB came with three 2.5mm washers rather than the standard two. Does this mean it's intended to be used with minimum of one?

Trying to narrow down the fault to one of these options:
I'm missing a component part of the BB.
The crankarm's faulty or been assembled incorrectly.
I'm trying to install the wrong BB (it says MTB on cups but I was under the impression all GXP BBs are non-specific).
My frame really won't work with external BB for some reason.
I've got a shit BB with shit tolerances and need to buy a proper one.

Pics of stuff below, any help?
