The circumference is a straight line, whether the route they're taking isn't.
Your house is 10km away, but it really 14km because of the route.
Still, wikipedia lists it as a network of roads covering 30.000 km or 19.000 miles. Their route could obviously be longer with detours, but the pan am highway is not that long.
