Not necessarily.

Criteria:

Fun / fast
Good on motorway
Comfortable
Shiny tech (mainly very good sat nav / speakers)
Decent enough boot / folding seats
Room for 4 people min.

I can get over having a shit MPG but it can't be something ridiculous like 20 mpg.

Hmm... they look lovely but you can't seriously suggest one of those after saying you don't like new car depreciation.

Even a used one of those is going to drop like a stone tied to an even bigger stone, fired downwards by a canon.
