This works wonderfully with chainstays not attached to the bike, much more problematic if the chainstays are attached to the BB, as the other chainstay will cause serious problems for getting a vice jaw behind. Not impossible, but dependent on the bike and some brain power. Also much trickier for chainstay clearance than tyre clearance on complete bikes, as you're that much closer to the narrower end of stays.

What's the solution to this? It rubs, only just, but it definitely rubs. @mdcc_tester would your 55t chainring have a small enough diameter to fit? What are the other options? Crimping the chainstay seems a bit drastic?
