Yep, saw a vid last night that said much the same wrt tape width. Don't think the Stan's I used before was quite wide enough.
I've got the normal gaffer-esque gorilla, and a clear one which looks a bit like the stan's. I reckon the gaffer type one will be a bit more stretchy, and so fit in the channel a bit better?

Mounting the tape properly is a bit of an art.
I always clean the rims - with soap then with acetone - to give the tape a chance.
When I use gorilla I cut the tape so that it's wide enough to sit across the whole channel and then butt up against the side walls. So that it won't get pushed inwards with the tyre when / if it comes off.
