Despite this being a super old thread, can anyone soothe me?
Heading back to the homelands tonight and decided to take my bike with me, as I really want to cycle around home a little bit. Gonna head to Perton from Wolves station and thinking about tackling the Holloway. Looking at stats, it seems comparable to Blackheath Hill, but can anyone confirm?! 46x17 which is great for the slow build up but that last little push will be killer.
Are you a Wulfrunian, @skydancer?

Spent lots of time there for work setting up cycle training there with a dear friend Pete Rollings now sadly deceased

It's not a long climb, but The Holloway does ramp up quite significantly in the last few metres. I'd imagine it's probably do-able on 46x17 depending on fitness, but it's going to be more like weight training than cycling. There's no footpath on the left hand side if you bail.
Other options (all hills, Perton is on Plateux) - The Rock and Tinacre Hill, both more gradual. Wightwick Bank, steeper than Rock/Tinacre but not as steep as The Holloway. -

@skydancer I saw that, it's a real shame. Some friends of ours may have known him, they're very closely involved with Wolverhampton Wheelers.
@Ste_S Yeah, the roads were wet and, as I haven't cycled them before – knowing where all the potholes lie! – decided to avoid that route and go The Rock instead. Wasn't too bad but it's a bit longer and I'd lost a fair amount of speed towards the end. London's so flat compared to home! Know it's often said but I never quite realised how different they are.

West Midlands is surprisingly hilly - I can get the monthly climbers badge on Strava relatively easily whilst not getting anywhere near the monthly distance challenge badge.

I might have to head back more often then!
We are starting to film for a little short film on the Wolverhampton fixed gear scene so would love people to get involved with ideas for locations, etc. Also come down and get involved!
