FS: XB3 Rekord track frame and forks. Project.

  • For sale is a XB3 'rekord' track frame and forks, with headset.
I'll make this advert as honest as possible with detailed images and descriptions. Please read both 'the good' & 'the bad' before dibs.

    Size:
Top tube: 56cm (centre to centre)
Seat tube: 56.5cm (centre to centre) 58cm (centre to top)
    Downtube: 61cm (centre to centre)
    Headtube: 17cm (top to bottom)
Wheelbase: 100-103cm (centre front drop out to rear drop out)
    Seat post size: 25mm

    Dropouts:
Front: 9.7cm (ran 10cm hub with no issues)
Rear: 11cm (ran 12cm hub with no issues)

THE GOOD: A solid track frame, no cracks, dings or noticable dents (as you can see in images) Paint has been stripped away as I planned to respray the frame as original paint was awful and had flaked away. Fork has been drilled for a brake, looks fine at the front, but drill hole at the back of the fork is rather ugly (planned to fill the holes if i resprayed)
Comes with original headset, as forks have strange Russian threading.

THE BAD: right hand side of bottom bracket is well and truly stuck, I've tried with what little tools I have to remove it, but I'm convinced the bike shop I took it to originally, rather than sort the threading, just forced one on till it 'fit' (these frames tend to be strangely threaded) I couldn't get an Italian or British threaded bb's to fit. But they got a British threaded bb to 'fit'. The left side unscrewed fine.
Ive attempted to stress and break the remaining bb rather than damage the threading any further, but had no luck. I think if you have access to a solid vice and more patience than me it can easily be solved. But I have very few tools and a coffee table/'work bench'.

I have more images if required. And please ask any questions.
No idea what to ask for price, so I'll start at £95 (posted UK only)
Happy to take advice on price.

  • Dibbbssss

  • Second....

  • Get out Lyon boy!

(if thomasssss can't remove I'll leave it in the shop for you)

  • SOLD

  • If the new owner is interested, those frames have French threading, steerer tube and bb can be rethreaded quite easily to normal standards, usually British, which is done to most of those frames here.If changing headset you should you use some spacers from beer can as Italian/Japanese/British headsets have narrower cups than original ones.

This is an ХВЗ Рекорд В64 model, yours is 1966 as stamped on right drop out
they were produced from early 60s till 1978.Way too bad you stripped it down as they're getting quite rare in original paint

This is how it should look in original

  • Thanks for the info, very interesting! As I'd only found images/info of the later models.
yeah Its a shame I stripped the frame, but it had flaked so badly it was beginning to get surface rust on the exposed areas and below the flaking original paint. The original 'soviet' stickers were lovely, I tried saving them, but none of the usual techniques worked to remove them without damage.

  • Those В64 bikes were originally painted in red, green, blue or orange in comparisson with later models which were only blue, gold or green.I had one of those a while ago, they're heavy as hell but unbeliavably strong just as tanks. Here's some more pictures of those decals on real frame

  • Bumpppp

I've removed the BB and rethreaded the shell and sorted the seat clamp but something else has come up so this is sitting around unbuilt.

So am happy to pass on for what I got it for (£95) with the added bonus of me dropping it to you in London Town!
