Anyone got any wheelset suggestions for casual SSCX? Currently a Charge Dish wheelset with 32mm tyres but looking for something different. Need to be fixed/free
Been looking at the Planet X AL30D track wheelset so far -

@joelt
120mm rear? What price point? I'd suggest novatec hubs from ebay, dt comp + brass nipples from rosebikes.de and choose the rims based on your budget. For low get kinlin adhn from hubjub.com, for more cash get archetypes from the internet, probably goldsprint de.go for atleast 23mm outer rim width and relatively low rim weight (less than 500 atleast)
getting a wheel building stand from rose will cost ya about the same as a cheap wheelbuild and the bonus is that you'll learn to true wheels.

no probs!
if you want a bit wider rim building them yourself is going to be cheaper. a lot of cheap ready-made sets are with aging 14mm inner width rims and the more hi-end builds with archetypes or tb14's go north of 250pounds I think. I'd guess around 200 pounds is somewhat doable if you find a good deal on archetypes, easily on adhn.
wider rim supports the wider tire a lot better.

I have always liked archetypes so maybe it's worth spending a little more knowing they will last. Plus they're versatile enough to put thinner tyres on for road rides

ye I've had 23* on my archetypes. They are great rims
-* not that theres any reason in the year 2016 to go as small as 23 but anyway

So converting my Brooklyn v1 into a sscx bike for winter commuting and a little bit of fun, having removable studs welded on similar to that of the mash works frame to run TRP CX mini V's ordered all parts and started a project thread I'm just trying to find out what SRAM cranks anyone runs considering I'll have 120mm rear?

That's the main inspiration

you could run omniums or just any road sram cranks with a single ring in the inside position. google image search suggests either would work. personally I'd run the old rival cranks (on the basis of looks)
or

Currently running omniums on the Brooklyn, so maybe I'll hunt for a 144bcd 42tooth ring for ease rather than hunting for new BB's and crank sets and fussing over chain lines for no real gain, the minimums have been running smooth for ages
-

Chain line are super easy to sort out really.
Alfine chainset is the cheapest and easiest way to go for SSCX.
-
• #3448
that ring on the red bwm is on the outside position. if you dont buy a loud cog (surly) you are fine using the outside of a road chainset with 120 rear. 43,5 no biggie. running a setup like that on my mash sscx and zero rattling with da 3/32 and narrow chain

I've got a sturmey archer freewheel 1/8th on order just to see the whole sscx conversion works then I'll get a white industries once that thing wears out. Untill I get the whole build up an running properly I'll run the omniums 49:18 mainly for commuting for now but do really want to switch out for SRAM force cx cranks later this year, I've seen guys running them on the mash sscx with white industries in the back, the SRAM is 11spd so what chain they running, it baffles me

Just get a normal 3/32 SS chain.
Out of stock at distributor, you could contact them and see if they can think of anywhere that might have one on the shop floor...
