Partly because so few road bikes are built to accept mudguards?
I was extremely annoyed to find that I couldn't get crud catchers over 25c tyres on my Lynskey. So I've gone through a whole winter annoying not only myself but other riders as well.
Now I'm in a dilemma as to whether to try again with 23c tyres or go for n+1 solution, and get a quick winter bike. Or try to keep up with the Sunday pack on a Cross Check.... It's hard enough as it is.
My mudguards were an absolute pig to fit: I have to deflate the rear tyre (25c) to get it on, and even then it's a squeeze. I suppose it does mean no one is nicking the wheel easily haha.
