  • so when you're spending 14 hours/day on campus, you really start to appreciate any chance you get to ride your bike, even commuting.
until your bike snaps under you for no apparent reason.
    just fml, really :/

  • Did you come off? Got hurt? New frame or bring it to a frame builder to replace the snapped tube, then new paint job?

  • You need to clean your chain.

  • luckily I didn't fall off. Gonna buy a new frame, and when budget allows I can repair this one.
shame, this frame served me over so many miles.

  • That'll buff out.

  • "I suspect some kind of etiquette will start to establish itself but for now it all feels a bit wild west."

Why on earth do you suspect that? These same people haven't developed sensible patterns of behaviour in many years of riding in mixed traffic

  • I like that question, but these new interactions are far closer to human/human. Previous etiquette has developed around a kill or be killed mentality.

  • Supposed to be 22 degrees tomorrow.

No doubt there will be a lot of "working from home" eg "the wifi stretches to the garden and I've beer so laters" ;)

  • Saw a lady cycling with a 'baby on board' badge on her backpack.

Keep on being awesome, pregnant cycling lady.

  • ^ Excellent! :)

So much sun what's going on...! Got the shorts out :)

  • Cab driver paused his 3 point turn and waited for me to pass.

10/10; would cheer me up again.

  • Dropped my wallet on the way home from work on Friday. A cabbie picked it up, called me and arranged to meet me at KX. They're not all bad.

  • Central London smelled like one giant, hot bin lorry this morning.

Or maybe that was just me.

  • First impressions of the new cycle lanes after westminster bridge(coming from south)? Think I'll try and stick to using the road...

  • Get kids ready for school, pack work clothes, get everyone out of the house. Get bike out of shed. Find flat back tyre. Pump tyre up in the hope it was just a loose valve. Listen to air whoosh out of tyre. Calculate chances of fixing tyre and getting kids to school on time. Arrive at an answer of nil. Go back in house and get changed out of cycling gear. Leave house again - now spectacularly late. Run to school with kids. Sweat. Get series of busses and trains to work. Arrive more spectacularly late. Realise have forgotten vital work pass leading to massive access problems. Sulk.

I was looking forward to this morning's ride in as well.

  • managed to pick my way through a series of backstreets all the way from WN4L > E&C this morning, using Barad Dur as a orientation point. delightful!

E&C > bank is the same old shitshower of sharing road space with poorly designed vehicles being operated by distracted drivers who should all be murdered by means of shoving an exploding mobile phone up their arses.

  • I have a month or more off due to "my troubles", WHAT THE FUCK IS ELEPHANT ON ABOUT?

  • Lovely cycle to work at 730 this morning: the sun was out; the air was crisp and cool. Totally ruined by some prick on a beaten up folding bike continuously mounting the pavement and swerving all over the place, in and out of traffic, to then saunter across the red lights with some smug grin on his face. I personally got cut up by him at least twice when approaching junctions, as well as numerous others. At one point he was traveling through oncoming traffic by Vauxhall bridge to get from the cycle highway onto the Victoria bound road probably thinking he was some sort of courier speeding through new york or something. No idea why I let it rile me, but it did!!

  • Us couriers do that here in London too.

  • I got fucked by it this morning.

I just somehow ended up on it and the further down it I rode the more it dawned on me I was being forced to turn left at the square instead of right as per usual. I had to jump a red and cut up a few cars to get back on track.

    #safetyfirst

  • "had to"

You realise Parliament Sq is only a roundabout, not some huge diversion!

  • Haha, this is true.

    1. I am stubborn
    2. Think of the time savings
  • Woke up to a cut in the sidewall...have no other 26" tyres ATM. Patched with a tyre boot hopefully it'll hold.

Today may get more interesting than I need...
