  • anyone tried these ?

  • BLB

Nope, not personably. At nearly £70 new, you would be better off spending a bit more and getting DA7600

  • Or you could spend a little less on these, which can take a bit more of a beating :D

  • Can they though? I'm not calling out BLB as a bikeshop but the components seem a bit garish or overpriced.

OP someone on here is selling a set of surly hubs for £70 or £80

  • I used a set for freestyle a when they first came out, they were fine.
Think they've changed them a bit now though, @privatepatterson is running a set right now and usually always take his advice as gospel.

  • They're in a bit of a shitty market spot there. If you're gunna get expensive hubs, go for the big names (Phil, Paul etc) which aren't a massive amount more. I'd trust them over BLB personally.

  • Ive got a blb king laced to formation face thats been around for 6 years and has no problems.
theyre just a cheaper copy of profiles

  • how do they compare to 7600 for road use, obviously not as good, but can they take more of a beating. I live in Dublin so plenty of cobble stones

  • For road 7600 would be better

  • Loose bearings or cartridge?

  • They are a Profile copy.
Sealed bearings so should probably be ok.

  • By that reckoning, contributors to this thread think that loose bearings are better than sealed bearings for road use.

Because DA is better than BLB/Profile...

  • Wtfk..

  • Not to say that the hubs aren't decent enough, but anything with BLB scratched into it will be over-priced.

BLB don't manufacture anything themselves, so spend some time tracking down the original manufacturer, failing which a less piss-takingly overpriced rebrand.

Whatever BLB sell, you can buy cheaper elsewhere: guaranteed.

  • excellent point.

    Basically I'm split between:

pair of the blb kings on velocity rear and open open pro front (pretty much brand new) - 140 euro or

pair of DA 7600's on open pros - 225 euro (well used)

these are the two wheelsets I've found second hand around Dublin. I'm upgrading from a pair of navigator pista wheels which just don't cut it for me personally on Dublin Roads. I'm just worried if I splash out on the DA's I wont be getting the most out of them and am just paying for the look of them, I don't ride track and use my bike as a commuter.

Any advise anyone has would be very much appreciated

  • If you're using it as a commuter and not on the track, then personally I'd go for sealed bearings.

  • 7600 hubs are for indoor bikes, or for people who only ever ride in the dry, or fancy repacking with grease after every wet ride.

  • ^ not to be one of those internet armchair experts, but I'm really puzzled why this even needs to be discussed on a forum full of people who actually ride bikes? Anyone who argues otherwise clearly knows nothing about bikes.

  • the blb wheelset is a better deal.

  • Can't you just use waterproof grease?

  • Lots of people in Japan use da7600 and it's always pissing down there. I've had my da x wolber nearly a year now and haven't had to do any major work on them, but yeah what scilly said

  • DA track hubs have got to be ten a penny out there though?

  • I'm rocking da7600 hubs on Dublin streets for the last month, there lovely. Super smooth and buttery.

But I'm going to go back to gran compes for street use. Just don't feel comfortable locking up with snazz da's.

Keeping the dura ace for track.

  • I have DA7600 on Wolbers too and I have only had to regrease them once, but they rarely ever went out when it was wet - more of a summer/posing thing.

  • thanks for all the help guys. Decided on the BLB rear laced to velocity for the rear and 2006 campy record laced to an open pro for the front
