  • sounds like a marathon length version of the Orchard Street Runners Midnight Half in NYC

    http://www.thatindierunner.com/2014/07/the-midnight-half.html

I've heard whispers saying it's probably going to be end of sept (from primrose hill) which clashes with Berlin for me

  • I just entered the london ballot for next year. Not sure why. Then I entered my boyfriend so at least I'll have someone to be miserable with. He ran 2km the other day before collapsing so I've got a head start at least.

  • I am also in the London ballot. Hoping I get in otherwise it's probably MK for me next year...

  • The race is now an integral part of the world wide movement of urban running and to many, is the pinnacle event in the sub culture.

    *drinks bleach *

Although Primrose Hill is close to home.

  • I think that was that the authors artistic license. it's basically a massive alleycat free for all which unless this one costs £200 a head to fund ninja marshalls will probably be the same

  • I've entered London Marathon.

  • So have I. I bet we don't get in.

  • I have a good hunch

  • Chances are slim, but someone has to fill the places.

  • I heard it was 1 in 10 last year. Even poorer odds for 2017 I would have thought. I don't care that much.

  • Chris Evans has been banging on about the LM ballot being open on R2 every morning this week. That won't help.

  • I just want to run it once then everyone else can have their go.

  • So I'm time-poor but energy-rich so de-emphasising the cycling for a while and going to do some running. I would like to aim for a marathon in 6-10 months. I've got pretty good fitness but ran never ran more than two 5ks in a week (then break for 4 months). So my current plan is to run roughly 4k at an v easy pace 2 or three times a week few for two months, and then start working my way though the Run Less, Run Faster Runner's World book by Pierce, Murr and Moss. Does this seem achievable? Any thoughts?

Also I have nice running shoes and a few actual running tops and I'm at a loss at what else to buy. What are the running equivalents? Like, can I increase my tread size to lower sole impact resistance? Get higher socks to improve my aerodynamics? Can I get headband in 650b? SOMEONE LINK ME TO SOMETHING I CANNOT AFFORD

  • A good friend posted that Secret Marathon on soshul meeja so I put my name down incase it turns out to be reasonably affordable and doesn't screw up other prep plans.

In other news, Scott Jureks Holy Guacamole recipe is v.tasty.

  • Phew ok, cheers. For a hot minute I thought I was going to have to simply do a sport instead of buy my way into it.

  • No worries, where there's sport there's sport products that'll quickly empty the deepest of wallets.

Your 6-10 month sounds achievable if you approach it sensibly btw, although that's often the tricky bit.

    Enjoy.

  • I've outlined the self supported urban 'trail' marathon route in mcr on the off chance anyone fancies it as a tourist later in the year.

There's a couple of road crossings where any hope of a closed route style flying pb will be crushed, just so you know, otherwise it's all traffic free.

Will make a more detailed route map / gpx for any visitors, and there may well be coffee & cake in abundance at my house that day.

  • Having just read

    https://runnersconnect.net/running-training-articles/science-of-racing-flats/

I wondered if anyone use 'racing flats' for road races? If so, do you find saving an extra few grams make any difference, other than the psychological benefit. If you do use a different shoe for race days, what should I look for in a good flat and do you have any specific recommendations?

  • First post marathon run. Club 5k. New PB and bang on 19mins :)

  • Marathon tomorrow. My ankle is still sprained from 2 weeks ago and I've spent the last 24 hours struck down by a migraine attack. What could possibly go wrong?!

  • You'll smash it I am sure.

My marathon training, meanwhile: I went for a long slow run this morning, from around km18 I had a hot spot directly under the ball of my right foot, which grew from barely noticeable to actually quite painful.

I stopped at 21.1Km and pulled off the shoe, nothing in it, nothing in the sock, only thing I could say was that the sock was a bit tight on the toes. What g'wan? I need to get rid of these niggles as June 4th is very soon now.

Other question - I've run 60k this week, from not a great deal (maybe a couple of 5k's/week), if I can maintain, or add to this for the rest of May then taper right at the end at what point will I want to vault the barriers and hide in the crowd in Stockholm?

  • What could possibly go wrong?!

Hopefully it went well for you tho given your interrupted prep.

  • Entirely predictably, I had to drop out. Yay for DNF'ing in front of friends and family who have travelled miles to see you.
