  • Got bored with polishing now. It's pretty bright but not mirror - I don't think I'll ever get it that bright unfortunately. Probably just varnish it and build 'er up again. Want to ride some bridleways while its dust not mud...

  • Almost tempted by some decals to break up the colours... pity the Giant logo is so bad.

Some bold black sticks would look sick, bit like the Specialized Crux, which this bike is effectively a cheapo version of ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • I quite liked the reversed out logos they used to have

  • Polishing masterclass from the old man and we are reaching mirror finish levels.

Gunna whack a few coats of paint on the fork and then spend my evening swearing and trying to recable the frame 😊

EDIT: I would show you, but the forum is being a ball again

  • Close enough done to roll in to town and pick up some new cable inner / possibly new brake pads.

    It's very shiny.

Still to do, more for my memory than your interest:

    • Recable rear derailleur
    • Fine tune shifting etc
    • Sort out brakepads
    • Second bottle cage
    • Ride it

Would like to get a slamdatstem headset cover, some Zero100 bars and get the fit sorted, but that's for another day. I also need some better SPD shoes, I'm currently using my dads old touring shoes...

  • Swap the seatpost and stem to shiny silver thomson/ shiny ritchey

  • I actually love that bike, so rad. Unfortunately it's a proprietary d-shaped seatpost so I'm stuck with this one, which won't let me set my saddle angle where I want it 😡

Will eventually go 1X, but not sure if that'll be this bike or not.

  • radical

    needs better pics

  • Looks great already!

  • You could always try shimming the saddle rail, I have same on my Defy.

  • My saddle points ever so slightly down, the next point on the seatpost is slightly too nose up. So I was thinking of creating some sort of wedge shim to sit between the saddle rails and the lower seatpost clamp, therefore pushing the nose of the saddle up.
Edit: this is only a thought, not weighed up any cons yet. May have a tinker about in the shed this weekend.

  • You can still strip and polish it, if it's anodised drain cleaner will strip it.

  • It does a job though. It deflects ever so slightly, due to the d shape, and takes some of the harshness out of the ride.

  • I was giving some though to just sanding both clamping surfaces down until they're flat and then using a shit tonne of assembly paste / torque to keep the fucker where I want it. Probably not worth it for the 0.5º change in angle I'm after.

    Slightly better photos for @amey

  • p.s. how do you wheelie? I've been trying all morning and it's hard :(

  • Step one - be chavy 10 year old.

    https://youtu.be/TTXncL71jqY

  • Step two - become world champion

  • Also considered filing the clamp area and tightening the fook out of it. You say .5° , but comfort is everything on a bicycle. It's amazing how the smallest of adjustments can completely alter the ride quality.
Is your saddle a Specialized one?

  • Usually ride Romins, but that's a Fabric. Whatever the cheap one is called. Close enough to Romin shaped for me, and a little more squishy.

  • @MechaMorgan @jontea

I resolved this by inserting two pieces of cut coke can under the front rails

    nice biek btw :)

  • ta!

Took it for a little mess about, brakes work well enough, although the chain slaps terribly. 105 is solid though! Works really reliably, even after being set up by me...
