Just got back from the Alps with @HoKe
We hired a large car from europcar and drove to gap which is further. I don't have a ticket at the moment, but might go if I can find a few spare pounds

Not likely. Would love to ride there, if I had the time. And also if I could use a more sensible bike. Don't fancy 800 miles on a road bike with a backpack full of kit.
